There is a CL Free ad placed yesterday for a big BL that was cut on 12/26. Must take all, and have it gone by sometime today. Must only work during daylight hours and not disturb the people occupying house. No processing on site other than making pieces manageable. It's about 45 minutes each way. Too many restrictions. I passed.
Too far for me too. 30-45 minutes about my limit one way. I have BL remnants from a score near oldest step daughters that i need to cut. She's about 40 minutes one way. I found a mulberry score thats far away should i choose to go there. Guy wouldnt post fresh pics as to whats left so i passed. How far will you travel for wood?
I try to stay under 30 minutes each way. This would have my interest though if I could work at my own pace with less restrictions. I read the ad a few times and I could sense PITA to deal with.
All different types on FBM. The mulberry guy is a foreigner and i dont think speaks English. He responded saying he'd get more pics but has turned into a ghost. I see he is seeing my posts but just not responding.
I've gotten 3 really good scores on CL over about 3 years. Good wood, nice people, and reasonable expectations. I would rather pass than get involved in a situation that I wish I hadn't.
So far, word of mouth has been my score getter here. 30 minutes is about as far as I'll go unless there are no other options. my current score is just under :30, but is a friend. (moron that in the 2024 Ash score).
First time back here to cut since last year and it was Friday! State came through and clear cut along highway in back and took all the blowovers. Those are mostly BL chips in the first pic. A few logs and scattered remnants made a PU full. One good sized log left I'll go back for and I'll inquire about taking down this leaner. Added to the BL rounds pile.
028 cut until it ran out of gas. Chain was a bit too dull so the 400 finished the job. I never put the 16" bar on and used the 18. Realized it was semi chisel chain. No issues starting, just forgetting to put the switch in start. Spoiled by all my mtronic saws where it automatically goes back to "on" position when the saw is shut off.
Good to know it can pull an 18" bar. I've only run a 16" on mine so far. I think the only semi-chisel chains I own are the 20" ones you sold me with the 20" bar. Perfect for cutting BL since they hold up longer than full chisel in that tough wood.
Last load of barkless wood from here today. Big trunk down an embankment. Did my best Eric Wanderweg impersonation to get it out. Excavated some limb wood scattered about too. Partly buried under chips. Felled this standing dead to top out the load. Not much left other than small limb wood. Did get dibs on this leaner though.
Nice load! Did you have to sharpen your saw? When will you start splitting and stacking all your scores?
No sharpening even though it needed it at the end. A lot of work schlepping the wood out. Had extra chain if needed. I'd guess 60-75 % of this is dry enough to use right away. Usually in May I'll have a split-a-thon, then a stack-a-thon.
