Pretty much. It's soft, very wide growth rings, even screws don't hold too good. Best lumber comes from the long leaf and slash pines in South GA. Just like the old growth trees that made the heart pine lumber, very tight grain. Here's some slash/long leaf logs that my friend hauled. I think it was cut off the Ft Stewart army base... I know you're over those...
Chip mill finally started taking pine logs again, so we hauled them today. 1st load... 2nd load. Neighbor wanted 1 more tree dropped, got 3 logs off of it to add to load... Just got to love our F150 with the 4.6L...
I used to work for Westvaco (West Virginia Pulp and Paper), watched many videos on the fast-growing pines they plant to use for pulp! Can't remember how many acres of land they own, but I seem to recall it was well over a million.
Neighbor texted us a couple weeks ago, said he was cleaning up a fence row, had 16 oaks if we wanted them. Maybe a mile from home. Had a chance to start on them yesterday about noon. Kubota moving one to a better spot Cut them high so he could get up stumps and there was a fence present. Decided to practice my Humboldt notches. Echo XS4910 with 20" bar gets it done... ...TIMBER... We dropped 8 in different sections, so it wouldn't be such a tangled mess to clean up...another one coming down Also used the Echo XS2511T for trimming. Makes cutting the smaller limb wood easy Stocking up on the limb wood for one of our sheds... Godzilla got the call to haul...had tractor on trailer when we got there, glad to have the 4x4, that field was soft. Pulled this load of logs great. Got a little left of 2 trees to finish cleaning up the first 8 we dropped. Made a pretty heavy load... Probably get the other 8 done next week.
The weather and my schedule cooperated, so we finished up the little oak project up the road... Last 8 trees Got them on the ground before the winds from the cold front got started 1st load... 2nd load, packed it all on there... Godzilla does the heavy hauling now... Beautiful sight...
Nice work my friend! You’re using these lifts enough that it’s time to invest in a fall arrest safety harness. That’s what these little D rings are for: a guy around here just like you recently got catapulted out of a rental basket just like that. Stay safe bud!
