From the stacks into the 'wood shed'. Finally a day with no rain and cool. Measured the MC on ash pieces in the stacks for 1.5 years: around 16%. What surprised me were some fat splits of white oak stacked an honest 3.5 years showing MC of 20.x percent, but most around 17%. About 8 more truckloads like this (did two tonight) will be moved for winter. Man, it feels good to be back at it again.
Yeah I think I'm going to move some wood this weekend also. A bit earlier than normal but requests for a fire in the house are growing louder and louder....
I start moving wood on Sunday. I have a get together Saturday, which should be the last one using the covered porch. I can usually fit about 2.5 cords on the porch, which eliminates going to the stacks for wood until mid January. Nothing like wearing your slippers to get wood to fill the firewood ring.
Very nice Gark They changed the forecast here again and looking like i'll be doing the same as you this weekend.
Gark, I see you posted this yesterday so your day must have been different than ours. We did get some rain but not a lot. Also was cloudy and cool all day and the only sun we got was around 7:00 pm when it started shinning. Sun all day today though.
That's interesting about where we live - there are times when we get a downpour and friends just 15 miles away say "Are you kidding? It's sunny and dry over here!" Some of the splits did have moisture from rain two days before. Where the bark fell off had the most water, between bark and wood.
