At some point in history a fire had gone through, some logs had a lot of charred on them. Darren had already been in there mulching all the little stuff. He said it was an impenetrable jungle of locust saplings 2” and smaller

If it was impenetrable how'd yall get anything done? Just kidding, just kidding. I'll show myself out.

Edit: Someone's gotta give ya a hard time. You got it way too easy on that one!

They will sprout new growth from the stumps. Go back in a few years and it'll be saplings galore.

About a year ago a lot was cleared near me and a lot was black locust/ Cleared right to the dirt, stumps and all. Six months later there were all the little BL sprouts popping up.

Darren’s load from today was 10,000 pounds. And the pile he ended up with IMG_1645.jpeg IMG_1648.jpeg IMG_1649.jpeg

My load today was 5,000# and yesterday’s was 6,000. And the pile I got. IMG_1646.jpeg IMG_1647.jpeg IMG_1651.jpeg IMG_1652.jpeg IMG_1653.jpeg Ended up being around a 60/40 split I’m guessing, maybe even 70/30. But I’m quite good with that, it was his score and his machines doing the work. I’m just tickled to have finally scored some BL! And what a score it was!
Gonna be a tough act to follow in this country.

I have no experience with BL, but it all looks like nice solid wood.

What is the yellow attachment on the skid loader? Could you get a close up pic of it?

I haven’t checked with a meter, but I’m betting everything barkless is ready now.

Yesterday, finally getting around to processing the logs. That’s pretty much a full cord on the truck. And I’m guessing I’m only 1/3 of the way through the log pile. IMG_1935.jpeg IMG_1938.jpeg IMG_1937.jpeg IMG_1936.jpeg

Nice when the bark just falls off BL. Takes up too much volume IMO. Just the schmutz under there can be messy.

My ideal BL scrounge is barkless off the ground washed clean by mother nature. Takes five years for that to happen though.
