This morning I woke up early, got up at 5:30 a.m. I grabbed my SW MP15/22 loaded with CCI Standard Velocity (subsonic) with Dead Air Mask silencer. Shot at 4 rabbits, hit 3. Didn't want them eating all my plants. I have shot rabbits around the garden before, but just gave them to family with dogs. This time I harvested the meat. I watched a couple videos the night before. I was back home and had them field dressed by 6:30. I put them in the fridge till I got home last night. Deboning them takes more time and effort.. I removed the spine and ribcage, basically quartering them. I will finish of the leg bones in the quarters tomorrow. I know now to just shoot one rabbit a day. Meat with leg bones for three cottontails, over 3.5 lbs!
Good for you on processing them. It damm near makes me yak when I clean a rabbit. They are usually flea ridden here also. You would of been 4 for 4 if you were using one of those scatter guns to assassinate them. That’s a nice bunch of shooters. Is that a Daisy Red Rider on the far left that’s almost cropped out of the photo ?
I would say yes if I had to. Looks like the one I had ( actually still have it). It was a fun time growing up back then when some of the simple things made you happy to be a kid. Something like that today is a plastic imported POS.
Yes. That was my wife's first gun, a gift from a man who is like a father to her. I bought her her first firearm, a Ruger 10/22. I have a few neat guns, I inherited a few. The double barrel 12 gauge shotgun has a funny story. My great grandmother's husband Slim was hilarious. He left some pistols, shotguns, and rifles to my brother and I. That shotgun had initials "H.O.P." scribed in the forend. I asked my Grampa if he knew what it meant. He said he didn't know. A couple minutes later he says "Your great grandmother was convinced that Slim had some of her daddy's guns. I guess she was right.". It is the initials of my great-great- grandfather. It stayed in the family anyways I guess
Semi-final results: after complete deboning. 3 cottontail rabbits, and one was obviously bigger 'en the rest, after a complete deboning by a rookie with a very good knife.. Almost 2.75 lbs of boneless, pure God provided natural meat. A good butcher could have no doubt, easily surpassed 3 lbs. This process gave me some lots of wisdom and I am in awe of butchers that do a great job on a daily basis without wasting as much meat as I did.
I've never heard of anyone deboning a rabbit...interesting... Is that a cricket with a can? Don't look right for a cricket...but not sure about another rifle that tiny....
It is a Savage Rascal, it cocks the firing pin while lifting the bolt like a big rifle. I SBR'd and cut the barrel down, recrowned, and threaded. It has a Dead Air Mask silencer. It's pretty fun. The barrel is 7.2", OAL is 21.75", about 26" with the can.
