Good find. Neither available here. Which would be prefered, Mulberry or Locust?
Just curious as personally I will take whatever is available if I think it it will burn. The one exception over the years was Weeping Willow. It smelled terrible.

Reloader I'm with you on the whatever is available. Some are shoulder season and some are for cold winter nights. If it fits in the stove it will burn and create heat, however nothing beats Locust for those cold winter nights.

If I could only have one itd be mulberry. Locust doesnt burn that well on its own unless its bone dry ime. Locust smells awful when burning to fwiw.

I didn't want to like that. Due to the willow added in. That stuff is the worst.

You're right, honest locust really needs a different wood mixed in with it too burn, even when the HL is 3 years drying in the wood shed.

For me, if I could only have 1 kind of wood delivered, it would be shagbark hickory.

I agree... I'm personally seeing Mulberry... meat wood and the back left chuck with bark intact... Good wood none the less... if you smoke, some good smoking wood...

that's good to hear about mulberry. I have not had the experience on burning mulberry as of yet, however I do have 1/2 cord in the drying rack for burning next year.

Years ago, a giant Willow tree fell over in our neighbor’s yard and partially into our yard. Our neighbor found someone who came, cut it up and hauled it all away for free. They were going to burn it for firewood.

Nice score regardless. If I see locust listed for free, I'll drop what I'm doing and go. Same to be said for SBH. No trouble here keeping it burning and I don't hate the smell. Mulberry on the other hand is like burning incense. Very aromatic.

This season was the first time I have ever burned any mulberry and I never experienced any pleasant aroma. Not even when I use it in the grill or smoker, I feel cheated :(

I can't recall ever burning any mulberry. I'm sure I have in my lifetime, but I definitely haven't in the last 15 years of so.

I'll have to search it out. I know my buddy with the toolcat has a bunch at the start of his woods.

First time I heard someone say they smoked food with mulberry, I wrinkled my nose knowing what it smells like. But after trying it, I’m a fan. It snap, crackle and pops really nice too. Great for an open fireplace.

I've burned mulberry every year since I started burning wood. I've never noticed a sweet smell. I'm thinking it must be different out on the east coast.

I’ve tried it, and like it. That incense-like smell I get did not carry over like I thought it wood. It’s mellow. Someone mentioned using it for cheese and I’d love to try that!
Honestly, when splitting wet shagbark hickory, the smell is nothing I’d want in my food so I have not used it to smoke. Other hickory yes but I’m too paranoid to try shaggy.
