I wouldn't mind coming out and meeting everyone but I won't have time unfortunately, one day I might host one at my place, but as of right now work is taking over

    Thank you!
I remember that customers reaction when we got done, he said "when you mentioned a crane, I thought like a little thing that would remove the tree (hemlock) one branch at a time, not the whole thing in 3 pieces!"

this was the second job of the day, I fell ~40 feet out of a hackberry about 4 hours before the crane showed up, amazingly I walked away unscratched, my descender got something stuck in it as I was rappelling out of the tree after topping it to fit in the yard
what do they say about falling off a horse and getting right back up? stupidly I did that, to this day nothing hurts really bad but it sure wasn't a fun day to finish working (although the crane always makes for a better day)

I have no advice that you need beyond a reminder to keep yourself in one piece. You got the rest far as I can tell. You're gonna do well if you stay healthy.

Great job building your new business. As far as being up in trees or a crane, NO THANK YOU!

    thank you!

and, everyone tells me that, thats not even a big crane lol, I've had a few jobs come up where there was talk of renting everything from an 80 to 210 ton truck cranes, with booms ranging from 125 to 200 feet, and you bet I was going to ride those to the top!

funny enough, I don't even get excited from it, I feel nothing, but the view is spectacular!

so, I was rappelling out and my descender quit grabbing, I still had my rope over a limb as standard practice, and had some limb friction/hand friction on the way down, landed on my right hip, directly ontop of my 200T, that was a really crappy day to finish working

Ouch! Glad you made it out of it "sort of okay". Did the saw cushion the fall?

One would think so right? That magnesium crank case had surprisingly little give, but the ground was fairly soft due to recent rains

I am unsure how it would be different with or without the saw, or landing different, and I don't want to test much of it lol

All I know, is don't fall, obviously that's a risk anyone climbing a tree has to be willing to take, but it can almost always be avoided, If I followed the European rules of 2 climb lines and a flipline (assuming they still do that) then I wouldn't have fallen, but could have been tangled up maybe, again, not sure and I don't want to find out

    Dude...wow!
I worked with a guy that fell ~10' while trimming a branch...he is now on disability retirement for the rest of his life...lives with a lot of pain, all day everyday.
I wonder if Barcroftb or Scotty Overkill would have any suggestions for different/better equipment, or possibly technique?

everything I was doing was by the book as per ANSI Z133-2017, and Petzl (descender MFG) instructions, but something got in the links of the descender (Zigzag+) causing it to not function

I had done a function test before going up, and visual inspection, passed with flying colors (which it should as the device is only a few months old with maybe 20 hours of climbing on it)
still unsure what exactly happened, if something slid down the rope onto it, or sawdust in the links, we think sawdust, it was working fine, all the way up until about 15ft off the ground when I wanted to slow down and had zero brakes

Why is the truck in the air? To get level on a down slope I presume, but the yard looks flat..
