Worked up a popular for a friend and her brother offered us a pile of red oak someone dumped in their yard while they were not home. We said we will take it. I seem to have forgot how heavy red oak is. We got two truck loads of rounds today and still have more to go back for. I split and stacked the last load and found it to be my best way to go using a vertical splitter. I sat on the tailgate and slid the rounds on the splitter and my wife ran the splitter while I adjusted the rounds.
I was blessed with a wife that loves to be a part of the entire process from loading the wood to stacking. She sometimes even cooks for me.
We got the remainder of the pile yesterday and split and stacked about half a cord. Lots of wood to S&S. Gonna hit it hard once the sun comes up and temps get up out of the 20's if I can wait that long.
Same here. 99 lbs has helped much throughout our time. Stacking.....not so much! At any rate, with both of us getting up in years, I don't ask her to help out any more since the work results in a longer recovery time. I would rather have just one of us getting buggered up for a few days......
Nice score! Any more details on someone randomly dumping wood on their property when they weren’t home? That seems so…well…random….
My wife used to help more out in the woods when I was cutting and she would also help with stacking. She turns 77 soon and finds it too difficult to do that kind of work. That leaves me to do all of it. I don't mind at all but I do go much slower than I did 20 years ago. She does do the clean up around the stove and she is a great cook.
