Those are awesome...I looked like crazy for a fold down bed until I decided to just stick with the pickup bed. That a 460 or 7.3 truck? (guess it could be a 5.8, but crew cab duallys with 5.8s were fortunately pretty rare)
Hey, there are a bunch of older 1 tons with 350s, 351s and 360s out there gettin it done...and as long as you aren't looking to do heavy trailer towing on the highway, they work fine...just hafta step on it a lil more The good thing about it is those are usually pretty affordable to buy. But we had one that surprised us back when I was selling trucks...it was a late 80s F250 4x4 351 5 spd and it had a hoist mounted under the factory pickup bed...it was certainly nothing fancy, but it was solid (from Oklahoma or Texas IIRC) When that thing came out in the Truck Trader ad people were flocking in to see it...thought we were gonna have a fight in the parking lot over that one! (Normally a regular cab F250 XL 351 5 spd 4x4 in stock form would be a slow seller...but ad a dump and )
Congrats on the new dump truck! I know you’ve been looking for the right one for quite some time. I like all the extra room for saws and stuff with the crew cab
Not sure if this is the “right” one, but it’s the “right now” one. Before I even went and got it I was thinking about taking the back seat out and mounting a log with notches to hold several saws. I typically use the gold colored Chevy with a tool box for firewood and the box holds 3 saws (if I hold my mouth just right) 2 jugs of oil, 2 gas cans, wedges, log tongs etc.. I spent quite a bit of time shuffling all the firewood making plunder over to the dump truck.
That sounds like a good idea! Stuff is so ridiculously expensive nowadays, you just have to pull the trigger when the chance is there. I have the fold down sides too, but have never used them because my sides are built up and make them unusable in my current configuration. I use my to chip into, so I have to leave it set up for that. Get us some pics when you settle on a configuration for the back seat and you’re saws and all!
I’ll take some pics for you when I get a chance. Most of it is the way I inherited it, but it seems to work pretty well.
Not sure if this qualifies or not, but had to move a load up to the garage for burning. Might get me through the season between keeping the furnace fed and the sap evaporator, which can be pretty hungry this time of year. We’ll see!
You ain’t Lyin! That’s why I don’t live over there Sister in laws family is from out East where the government knows what’s best and like to regulate existing automobiles. She’s shared some interesting stories. Seems like one of those “coming to a state/town near you kinda things. I’ve always said this could be how they force us into the car/truck they want us in. Time will tell. Until then, I’ll keep doin what I’m doin cause it seems to be working. Have you had to get rid of a vehicle because of regulation or do you try to stay ahead of it by remaining in more late model cars? Doesn’t seem like there’s a way to beat such systems, just ways to manage the pain they create.
