So, over $450 for a cord of wood. That should include having someone there to bring it in your house and stoke the fire in the middle of the night.
If I could afford that, I'd just flip the thermostat to 70 most of the time (actually, I wouldn't, but I hope you get the point). Yes, I've heard the term, but as are most of the other terms used for firewood, it's not a legally defined one.......at least not that I'm aware of. The term used around here is "face cord", but that amount is also known as a "cord". It can get very confuzzling. Kinda like telling someone you're eating an apple, when you have a papaya in your hand with bites taken out of it. Or, looking at a blonde and saying how cute that brunette is. Ungooder.
no, that aint my area. more like $200 delivered here for a true cord that is supposed to be seasoned (i would guess ussually 1 year piled). i tihnk i recall seeing $250 from a guy that showed pictures of stacks of grey wood.
Stove cord = fireplace cord = rick = face cord. A single 4x8 row, cut to "stove length" - aka, whatever length it happens to be cut to. Standard around here is ~16", but you gotta do the math yourself to figure out how many go into 1 full cord. You buy it in face cords (usually between $50 and $75, though I've seen it as high as $90 for "primo" wood, that's been seasoned), but you figure the amount you need in cords. The math is pretty easy, just take 48" and divide by the length of the splits; that tells you how many face cord you need to make a full cord.
Didn't notice anywhere in the info saying it was seasoned. You know, at least a week er sumthin... Prolly cost $1000/ cord for real 3 year seasoned stuff... if you could even find anyone selling it.
It's gonna get worse I bet. I'm seeing a lot of my neighbors getting into the act this year. I'm guessing there was a bit of sticker shock on those gas bills from last year. So demand is probably going through the roof. Pays to have your own land in times like this. I've had 2 people ask me if I was selling any firewood. But I have a sentimental attachment to mine.
Not sure what the price would be around here to run the electric baseboard all winter, but they estimated my bill a lot last winter. Wife kept telling me to call and give them the actual reading. I said let it ride and enjoyed 2 months of a bill that read $000.
Hmmm.....at that price maybe I should crate my hoarde up and take it out your way to sell it...Some of its been seasoning for four years now!
Never heard of a FP cord. Locally, wood is measured by the "rick"- 4'x8'x typically 16". Most folks know the proper definition of a cord but no one uses the term.
I think some of this is justified. I've done a lot of work at people's houses and they can be a PIA. We have one customer we make stand there and watch us work because she always finds a flaw. I can see some rich person wanting to fungshway their wood pile and God forbid you drop bark on their lawn.
