More ash salvaging up in Harwinton for the most part. After that I’ll probably get back to picking away at the Dollar General hoard.
I really like my 028. For a small, compact saw it packs a decent punch. I don’t know if the port work and muffler mod has anything to do with it, or if they’re just one of those models that make Stihl guys Stihl guys.
The cherry had a significant amount of heart wood punk to where I’ll keep it for personal use and not sell it next year. Perfectly fine by me. Today’s ash was in excellent condition, and got added to the top of a growing stack that will most likely get sold next winter.
Not wanting to break into the exotic wood market huh? My Asplundh cut the gnarly log had lots of punk so ill leave it. If it was nice and straight id take it.
It's a catch 22... I don't get a lot of cherry so whatever I do get I want for myself. I know I could sell some especially if it's solid and relatively straight grained, but again, I'd still want it for myself If I ever get a lot of it and it gets sold I'd sell it mixed with other species. IME burning straight cherry makes lousy fires which might cost me a customer.
Uh oh. I sold a half cord to a guy in New Haven last month! Casual burner! Answered my CL ad for it. I have maybe 3-4 cords for next year too. A lot mixed in for bundle fodder too.
Casual burner may not think much of it then. "If it burns, it must be okay" Straight cherry for me leaves heaping piles of charcoal, which is why I mix it with ash, or pine, maple, etc. anything that burns hotter that will help burn down the cherry coals.
Check out this cherry knot/burl section I left behind. Thing was hard cutting! I should go back to get it. It would make good woodturning stock.
