One other thing about ethanol is that it contributes to plowing up what little native grassland/prairie we have left (less than 1/10 of 1% of unplowed/developed tallgrass prairie). I think E10 probably has a place, but not so sure about E85.

Meanwhile out here, the wind turbines were shut off again last week because it was too cold, they just got back in action since being shut off for high winds. Turns out they have an internal heater that cannot keep up with frigid cold. (the heater is powered with electricity from the coal plant). Just like the corn gas, they will cost more than they will ever produce, and up here being shut down all the time, adds insult to injury, ruin our lands and tax us on it.

So it doesn't power it's own heater when operating ? Seems like a major ball drop.
Maybe the design engineers counted on global warming.

Well, I don't know for sure, one would hope so, huh? Or atleast a rechargeable battery in there and electricity for back up. Either way we are being taken advantage of for something that only runs sometimes.

I think it's a lot to do with adding jelly beans to our being green jar.
Last summer we drove through a couple rather large farms and I was astonished at the amount of them shut down.
If they were money makers that would not be the case.

Vineyard Wind supposedly will be making a profit for stockholders selling electricity to the grid at 6.5¢ per Kwh. There's a lot of profit taking between the turbines and the customers.

When you see wind turbines not spinning it can be due to maintenance issues and it can also be because the grid does not need the power. It's very easy to turn a wind generator off when you don't need the power. Fossil fuel power plants - not so much.

EV use means ethanol can be removed from gasoline now. Plenty of 'offset'. Plus drivers would enjoy a 3% increase in mileage.

Unfortunately I tend to think that the people profiting from ethanol have enough pull to keep that from happening, even if they have to share more of their profits with the decision makers.

Depends on which fossil fuel. Nat Gas plants are frequently used as peaker plants because they are easy to throttle up and down. Coal is base load because of its inability to do that. I believe #2 distillate burns similar to nat gas and can also be turned on when needed. I think some of the wind turbines don’t turn, not because the grid doesn’t need the power but because the operator isn’t willing to pay the price. I imagine they have to have some kind of price floor so the income is not less than the expense of wear and tear. But sitting idle doesn’t pay the bills.

Have seen in a couple differing places that those mills could spin continuously for their life span and will not generate as much energy as was needed to make, place and dispose of them.

To those who keep saying "follow the money" just remember that the fossil fuel industry receives more subsidies than any other industry on the planet and it has been this way for many decades.

Got a source for that? Curious to see what industries come in second and third.
