Broke another Isocore maul. Fourth Fiskars ive broken. Noticed the head getting loose and after going Lizzy Borden on the wedge today it cracked. Big cherry rounds didnt wanna break with the wedge. First time ive cracked the steel. First Isocore and the two X27's i broke the handles. This one lasted nearly two years. Time to file the warranty. Wish me luck.
Being a casting and that Brad likes to use the hand of God on his tools, I think the only way to solve this once and for all is if I mill him a splitting head out of solid steel
I would have but ran out and my extra bottle in the toolbox was empty. See update on my other thread.
My dad always said he thought I could tear up an anvil with all the stuff I broke when I was a kid. Thinkin he was talking about you Brad.
Mostly I’m impressed, but there’s part of me that wants a slow-mo video of your technique, like a high-ranking PGA player. Fiskars should send out a team of scientists to study this phenomenon.
Did the first one break while pounding wedges? I have never really used mine for that. I have a special 10lb sledge just for wedges.
And I was bummed when I cracked the plastic smash guard off mine... oops. Brad have done warranty replacement on the others? How'd that process go?
No. Just splitting. Sirchopsalot and his son witnessed it. I did ask Fiskars if it was designed to be used as a sledge and they said yes. Not that often i sledge and wedge and not having extra mix with me i resorted to it. The big cherry did not want to crack so i had to go full bore on the wedge. Usually less than ten whacks and its done. These took 40-50 hits! Funny thing is that pic i took of the sledge. I was going to leave the wedge in there for when i go back as i had found the crack in the maul. I gave it three more whacks and it broke in half.
Warranty claim was very easy. File online. Few simple questions and pics and in two weeks i had a new one. The Isocore was the exception as they claimed out of stock and offered a check instead which i took.
I just searched the net for "broken isocore", then selected "images". The top three pictures, with website, made me chuckle.
Someone needs an angle grinder to give that wedge some TLC. A lot of shrapnel around the top of that thing " You'll shoot your eye out kid"
