I have a hearthstone green mountain 40. It is cast iron outside with soapstone lining the firebox. I noticed one of the back stones has a hairline crack about 2” long. Should I replace the stone entirely or would a repair with furnace cement be safe and acceptable?
I assume it’s safe for me to continue burning with the crack for now? Thanks.

If it’s just a fancy firebrick then cracks are okay.

Overall I like the heat output, performance, and look of it. My only complaint is the catalyst clogs up pretty frequently and it's not the most convenient to access. So recently I have not been using the catalyst.

So without using the Cat what kind of heat times are you getting ? I have the older model and I increase my heat times with a pipe damper. How were your heat times when you used a clean Cat ?

Sounds like you got wood that might be a touch too wet if your cat is getting a little clogged. If you can, give it a little air if you can or burn a little longer before engaging the cat? Good luck!

That's what someone told me too...let the stove burn off some of the moisture before engaging cat

Some of these stoves don't like the wet wood a bit. I've heard of some preferring higher than 20% moisture content but I haven't wrapped my head around the concept that more moisture means "better fire". Either way I hope you get it dialed in the sweet spot.
