First time in many years, had to go to double row of splits in the OWB, 10 degrees here at present. But it kept house at temp all night.

Cold here too. Not being familiar with how and OWB is loaded how does it get done normally?

I used to have the central OWB. Less than -40 temps and it performed flawlessly. In the shoulder seasons, I would only build a fire in 1/2 of the box.....either the left or right side and then alternate for re-fills.

Odd that you have to load so much for only 10 degree temps.

Almost 5000 sf, and I think the great room window wall a large factor also

-30C here with wind chill my G 200 took half a load to go from last night at 7pm till 8am(74 degrees days 72 nights) and it was only slab wood & pallet wood.I have same issue with shoulder time half a small firebox full if put to much in end up with big pile charcoal.I am actually considering to build a shop for tractor etc just to use the unit more.

It’s a huge fire box but it will also eat as much as you put in it. Of regular length firewood, you could put three rows. But I only usually put one row right in the center at a height I sort of gauge to evening temps. I like to keep it back from door a little. I need two rows to make it 8-9 hours through a night at these temps. When I went out this morning it could have maybe gone another hour before falling behind the thermostat lower setting

That's right! Forgot about your heat load. I stand corrected, sir. :handshake:

Regarding the great room window, as after thought and I'm sure you are aware of this already, I have blinds that when they're closed it makes a huge difference in heat loss through the glass. If you have them installed, maybe only open them partly during daylight hours.....assuming they are closed completely during darkness hours.

A neatly stacked 1/2 load will last 24 hours in my boiler.

I got him at a log home builders show years ago, but there don’t seem to many log home shows out our way any more. Maybe other parts of the country still have them???? But this one will have to last me.

Gorgeous!! We had similar at previous home, but windows (not doors) and just 14' high. View was amazing, I still miss it like crazy and thrilled to see yours!

We have 6 4x5 windows in the living room and the draft just from those is insane. It can be 75 or 80 in the house and our feet still freeze. I have been tempted to take out a few.

No sir. I made an owl one time and placed it in the yard. A woman stopped by and said "Who made the cat?" :rofl: :rofl:
