Warner Some more pics of the chair.

As mentioned in the other thread, it’s from Mount Snow. They elected to sell off the old chairs vs scrapping them when new chairs were installed on the existing Grand Summit Express lift. They had neat setup where they staged the chairs and then loaded them in your pickup or trailer using a Lull forklift. I may have some pics of that kicking around.

The guy who loaded our chair was the head of lift operations. He explained that one side of the chair tubing is weighted inside; similar to lead shot. That was done because the chair doesn’t hang straight down from the haulrope (cable); it’s off center a bit.

I mounted it on some pressure treated lumber using some wood lags and some metal strapping. It’s held up rather well. It’s 19” off the ground which is the actual height the chair was at for loading at the base terminal.

The original color was a battleship gray and later painted black. You can see a little of the gray on the safety bar. I have to touch it up in a few spots and give it a good pressure washing. It sits under an Oak tree and doesn’t get much sun.

This site has some good history of this lift and the others at Mt. Snow:

I've spent weekends frozen half to death in one of those more than once.

Not the warmest way to get to the summit!

I have a few lift stories…quickly: One time my wife and I got stuck on a lift for a good 20-30 minutes. When they got it restarted and we got up top, we received a voucher each for a free lift ticket or daily rental.

Years ago, a squall rolled through and lightning was in the area; they had to shut the lift down. Ended up being evacuated. That was interesting! Received a voucher for that experience.

I got stuck at okemo for 2 hours on a lift. Was about 15 ft up. Was with my sister and she wouldn’t hang and drop so I couldn’t leave her. Brought us down with a rope tied around a weight belt. Hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. Lol. Never been so cold in my life. Except when I fell in the water duck hunting and friend didn’t put the keys in r spot. Waited about 2 hours there too. People came down with first bite. Voucher and free hot chocolate.

Frostbite is rough! Been there before, yikes!

When I was evacuated, they used what looked like a t-bar that you sat on then lowered you down. They had some type of metal guide over the haul rope (cable) and used some type of actual rope to lower you and the t-bar down.

One area we used to ski at had a set timeframe they wanted a lift evacuated within. They trained most of their staff on how to assist. So you’d have people who had office jobs (Marketing, HR ect) outside helping to get people off the lift if needed.
