Storm the other day tipped this dead white oak over our fence. Looks like fence wires are still intact, so hopefully we can just staple it back up once we get the wood off.
Mother nature provides. Sapwood looks mostly gone but that heartwood lasts a long time after its dead. Must be chomping at the bit to get after it. In due time Mike.
Looks l Looks like a joy to process. True Goldilocks stuff for the most part! When do you think you’ll get after it?
I learned the term from Logger Wade. He used it when showing a similar tree. His description was that of a tree that had been cut previously and the stump sends up multiple stems in a group, rather than one or two main spars. I think it can happen without a cut stump as well. Why I always pay attention when I can afford it. Never know what you might learn...even from a hillbilly logger in Indiana.
Since my foot is still healing and we needed it cleaned up asap, I had some friends come over and clean it up. They were super stoked with their haul. Meanwhile, I go to run my tractor for a couple hours with them, so that was enjoyable. Yes, it was likely a stump sprout. Many, many of our trees are 2+ trunks, sprouted from stump or from a sapling that was nibbled off by a deer.
The wood sure looks good still and already on it's way drying. The fence will be ok but the wires will likely be stretched and need some tightening.
That was nice and quick! Glad you have some friends willing to give you a hand. Good luck with the foot and glad it didnt keep you completely grounded
It's gotta be a rough job working with black beanie hats over the face though... That's neat to have friends come and take it.
