Check to see if you have any Rural King stores near you or look for Cam2 brand. Current Rural King price is $8.99.gal but they have it on sale sometimes for even less. I switched from TSC stuff as well and have been satisfied with Cam2. Buy a jug and try it. I looked but do not see that Rural King is near you. I see some places online wanting $18.99/gal for so shop around.

We don't :( Rural King even has Husky's good bar oil for much less than I can get it around here. It's $23 here! So, did you notice a change in TSC's County Line stuff as well? I have one gallon left of their good stuff.

Our TSC used to carry Harvest King for a good price and used to get that. When I saw they switched County line brand I figured it may be a rebrand but didn't get any. About the same time Rural king had an ad with it even cheaper than TSC had their's at so I tried that. Once I did, I went back and bought 5 cases. LOL I've seen other people said they got it at Menards but ours locally doesn't have it.

I have no problem with the saw choice, the MS250 is an older design from the 80's and they oil the bar just fine IME, for the bar length they're designed for. The 18" on that saw is roughly equivalent to a 16" on an MS260/261 in length. The other advantage of using the MS250 is they are def NOT underpowered and yet a good quality B&C for them is relatively cheap compared to something like a 261. I'm sure that came into play when you need a dedicated B&C for every oil tested.

I wonder if the high RPM of a modern saw comes into play as well. We know the OEMs have toned down the displacement of the oil pumps, so a small displacement oil pump cycling faster is not likely to pump cold/thick bar oil as efficiently as a larger displacement pump operating at a slower rpm.

There is a guy on the YouTube that saves all the used Kubota UDT / Super UDT hydraulic / HST fluid from his tractor and mixes in tackifier that he bought in a gallon jug from some oil supply place. He claims it works as well as any bar oil and a gallon of tackifier lasts years. HST fluid definitely has the extreme pressure and anti wear additives considering the shear forces its designed to withstand. The tackifier keeps it on the bar and chain he said. I've seen my fluid from my Kubota. Its almost as clean as it went in after 400 hours. I've been looking for the tackifier here and there but not seriously because I just did my 400 hour service a few months ago and only recently found out about this YouTube vid. I won't have 400 more hours for 10-12 years.

It is for sure. If I remember right, I got 2 cases for $140. I’ll never be the guy that spends the extra $$ for Husky/Stihl gallon bottles ($20 is insane in my book). I do use a good bit of whatever is cheap, mostly County Line from TSC and now I find myself mixing the BelRay to give that stuff more tack, trying to extend my mileage so to speak with the good stuff. When I did buy it, the local guy said he wouldn’t be able to sell it that cheap next order. And since, I’ve seen him list this for sale.

$40 for 3 gallons. That’s still more than I’d like to spend.

You can get it at RK for $8 a gallon so that is not a deal.

I'll be trying this once my supplies dwindle.

One of the members here has been using the premixed version for some time now with good results. This concentrate is much cheaper than the full gallons.

I use to run Husqvarna bar oil, bought cases of it on clearance sale from Lowe’s. Swapped to Country Line from TSC after the price hikes at Lowe’s. Ran that for a while and most recently went to Rural King online for Cam2 on Black Friday sale. It was $7/gallon, so hard to pass up, got a couple cases for backup. I run through 10-15 gal a year, depending on projects.

Recently Lowe’s had the Husqvarna bar oil on clearance again but still $20/gallon so it stayed on the shelf. I asked for a case price break and got told no, they use to offer discounts for purchasing a couple cases at once.

The gist of this thread is we'll run whatever is cheap, and doesn't send us or the saw to an early grave.

Thinking back, I think a lot of the problem of the thinner stuff running through my saw is the bar. The Tsumura bars seem to oil really well and have a decent sized oil hole. When I broke my tip sprocket on my Tsumura, I temporarily replaced the bar with a brand new Sugihara. I immediately noticed a reduction in bar oil being used with the Sugihara. When I replaced the tip on the Tsumura and put it back in use, the oil started to run through the saw again.

I think is $13 for the concentrate that makes a gallon.

Both My Sugi bars have tiny oil holes. On my domar built Makita it was pumping more oil through the clutch cover than the bar. I ended up making a thin plate to place between the bar and cover to force the oil down the bar.

I like the idea of easy clean up and the other benefits they claim.

yep $13 a gallon and shipping was not bad either. Fellers you do have to realize that my perspective is that of an everyday user though. Bar oil, even at 13 bucks a gallon, is a very small percentage of my sunk costs. Having said that I think the stuff is great though. Every claim the company has made has proven true for me. I’m happy with it and will continue to use it even if it looks like jizz in the bar oil tank.

I thought I may have this as an option....until I read about storing/using above 32°. I do all my cutting in winter and preferably in under 32° temps.

That was a concern for me as well. Not because I regularly cut in the cold, but because my garage is unheated. It does have a pour point of 10° according to company.
