I think I'm going to buy a SXS to keep out at the family property, mostly to keep trails clear and help with deer hunting stuff. Yamaha Viking looks like a good option. I like the power steering and e-lockers. Anyone have any experience with one... Or a better idea? Don't say Polaris.
For work - Kubota or a Mule For work and play, I’d say any of the major Japanese brands would fit the bill quite well. Can Am makes a good machine but they had Visco lock issues going on when I bought mine. Honda Pioneer was my first pick and COVID hit and I ended up with a Ranger because it was >6 months to get a Pioneer. Pioneer has a true transmission vs a belt. 2,200 miles so far with zero issues on the Ranger. Most of those miles are from trail riding in WV. It’s gone up some stuff I never would have expected it to. My friend calls it a goat. Polaris wouldn’t be my first pick for another machine though. Way too many recalls for my liking. Polaris does have the best selection of aftermarket parts though. I have an aftermarket heater, and doors on my Ranger.
Not trying to spend your duckets but Kawi has a big reveal on a new one coming January 23. Inline 4 cylinder engine. It's called a 'Ridge' which sounds like a work type name to me. The Mule Pros with the new engine are getting good reviews. They did have some deals running as well. The bed size of the Mule FX begs me to buy one, but I'm getting by with my little bed OK. All that said, I do like a Yammy and have owned a few that I can't speak badly of.
Did Kawasaki finally ditch the Chinese Chery engines ? When I was looking at Mules I read that they were really good engines though. Always found it interesting that they outsourced their engines in that model to the Chinese when Kawasaki is known for building great engines. A Kawasaki KRX would definitely be my first choice for a play machine. Yes, they are all stupid expensive these days. I think my machine is >20k these days. I paid no where near that in 2020 for it.
Yep. They have two versions of the twin cylinder in the KRX now. One for work and one for play. JD also used the Chery. My Mule has a Kymco engine in it which is basically a copy of Yammy's 686.
Well look at that... A new challenger appears! https://www.kubotausa.com/docs/defa...09_15_rtv_1130_ktc-(1).pdf?sfvrsn=3b4056d0_10
Funny thing is the market doesn't reflect the actual value of most products in this country anymore. Way to many people with way too much money or just the majority of people living outta their means (living on credit) just because they can make all their payments every month. Sometimes i wish i could live like that but my parents and grandparents raised me smarter than that. If i needed something shaped like a sxs to do work, i think id look everywhere else besides a sxs. They're a cool toy but for the money put out its not worth the return, as far as work goes. People are just spoiled now a days and most don't even know it! They're almost like a diesel truck: just a status symbol.
It's not the products. It's the Money we use to purchase those products. A buggy is still a buggy, but the dollar ain't even what it was just 5 years ago.
It was 35 degrees a few days yesterday and snowing like hell and I had all of the tools in the back of my Ranger to fix an electric fence issue that was I having. I was able to stay warm because I have heat and doors. Everything I buy for my farm is used to its fullest capacity, no trailer queens here. If you have a large farm ( think thousands of acres ) what better tool is there to check fence, or livestock, or crops with ? You can go 200MPH in a high dollar sports car. Why do you need one when the highest posted speed limit in this country is 75 or 80 ? Yet they sell thousands of sports cars a year. Just like a sports car to some people, a SXS is something I could live without, is it something I'll go without while I have a farm, no.
I've tried it all out there and SXS is the best option. Golf cart can't do the hills when it is wet. Tractor is too slow to get between a couple different tracts of property. ATV is fine, but hard to move deer stands without the trailer...SXS i just strap the ladder stands to the roof. 4x4 Ford Ranger or similar is too big for the narrow windy trails. I've found that if I make the trails too big the deer stop using them.
When I first caught the forest bug, I was walking my woods with a top handle and backpack full of supplies. Thankfully not too long after a tractor came along (those hills!). Tractor is well loved, but doesn't offer anywhere to carry anything and takes 20 minutes to get to the back of of the property and even longer to get to the other parcel. Had a utility 4wheeler for a little while and that was nice for getting around. Didn't have a good trailer to put behind it so again it was carrying capacity lacking. Then came a buggy. Buggies have allowed me to do a bunch more work around the property. Of course the tractor has allowed the buggy to get around decently via the trails it has made and maintains. You can't work a property (with any ease) without having good access to it. Once the access was ready, a buggy was inevitable.
Idk if i can see it that way. The dollar is worth more than the euro, British pound and Canadian dollar.
Now imagine how much they have to pay for a buggy! Also speaks about the loss of their currency's value as well. Nothing ever gets more expensive. The paper notes we exchange for them lose value.
Again I'm not sure i see it the way you do. When all currency in the world equally "looses value" as you say, how do products not cost more? Its not like job pay is following or of setting it. I would love to think that "the people high up" were deciding what everything costs but that's not how it works from the way i understand it. Supply and demand is king. Supply, with covid, obviously dropped off but demand didn't. It's that way across multiple industries not just ORVs. Sxs just get it worse, imo, because the bank will finance them. That right there'll drive the price up. I used to work at a new car dealership. Being an employee we got first dibs on used car trade ins for not much over what the dealer bought them except........ the ones that had low enough milage. Then you had to pay close to what they would be able to sell it to the bank for. It's all rigged one way or a other.
RCBS please don't take any of that offensively. I'm not trying to argue. I'm just trying to learn what others are seeing/going thru and learn how to better articulate what I'm thinking. lukem sorry for the thread hijack.
A cheese pizza is always going to be a cheese pizza. Doesn't matter if gold is worth $1 an ounce....it's still the same pizza. Hard items don't change value (as far as what they are 'worth', meaning what can they do...feed you, transport you, etc), the Money, which is supposed to be stored value, loses it's value against hard items like a cheese pizza (or any other non-monetary item of value) that was $4.00 in 1977, now costs $18.00. It's still just a cheese pizza. Inflation is a misnomer...it's actually deflation of the dollar. If the dollar were to inflate, wouldn't it carry more value over hard products? Pretty sure it's meant to be confusing.
Definitely meant to be confusing! Depends on what side of the coin you're on or what side you think you wanna be on. That determines a person's perspective in my opinion. It's like my dad being a small business owner and relating his business and life to the big businesses that rule this country. Not even close. So if i think inflation is going up I'm on big business/governments side and when i think the dollar is losing value I'm on the people's side? If a dollar is worth more products cost less. I'm sure when "they" talk about inflation they are referring to the cost of goods. I'm glad you explained it the way you did. I think the same way but never really understood how it applies in the big picture. I always compare what i used to pay for a product vs now and I'm only 36!!!
