On the doorstep of 24 and I’ve been thinking about how there’s only a few months of winter left in the South. A month and half away from the start of the college baseball season. I’m not 3/5ths of the way through my normal winter front door stack. Just passed 1/2 burned 2 days ago. It looks like team El Niño mild winter wins the forecast prediction for NC. Moved a variety of wood into the basement this morning. Ash, Sourwood, Poplar, Cherry, Hickory and Oak. I didn’t think I had any Ash left. Noashatall Several cords of straight White Oak will get another southern summer of baking. I don’t have pictures of it, but I held a cash of Hickory just in case there’s a Saskatchewan polar plunge. Maybe this post will change everything. Happy New Year Y’all! May 24 bring lots of premium wood and happiness to your wood yard. Will it be two winters in a row with no snow?
Awesome fence row! I’m there w/ you. I’ve only burned 2 rows in my basement so far. If it keeps this up, I’d be 6-7 years ahead if not more. These red oak fires keep making the house 75-77 so we end up letting them go out for a day or more. I’m not complaining though. Happy New Year to all. I’m going to spend the last day of the year runnin’ saws!
I think it was about the middle of July I posted that we were having the coolest summer ever on record in Dodge City. Hadn’t had a day at or above 100* yet. Shortly after that it got HOT. Ended up with somewhere around 25 days 100* or above. I’m not going to say anything about winter weather at this point Lol, other than my firewood stacks are holding up well this year. At this rate, I might be on the 9 year plan.
Kind of a no Winter here too. 10"+ of rain in December has stalled/slowed my firewood making efforts. Still have that red maple job that i had hoped to finish by today. Happy new year to you as well my friend. Hoard on and cut safe.
Last winter it seemed like I was shoveling or plowing every week. I went through more firewood due to the colder than usual weather as well. I am not complaining about this December at all. To all my FHC brothers and sisters, work hard but have fun! Be safe out there and have a wonderful new year!
Today I had to remind myself that we still have 2 months of winter coming. It really seemed like March. Even the way the sun appeared late in the day. I need to get on the ball and finish my winter projects before spring arrives.
It was 50 and sunny here. I split and stacked a bunch of pin oak so it smells like cow patties outside right now
We are about 9-10" below normal for moisture for the year with only two light snow falls in Omaha. Been on the warm side but still have 3+ months of winter here so not holding my breath on amount of wood that will be used. Happy New Years hoarders.
