I only burn junk wood from my firewood business in my owb. As it’s made, it gets tossed into the ibc tote bladders and put under cover at moms where I process all of the wood. I was just about out at home (typically store up to 3 cords) so today was a good day to restock at home. I could just throw it in a pile on these plastic pallets but since I had the time, I figured I would play Tetris and stack it so I can fill up the area with 3 full cords. The dump truck load was about 1.75 or so. I will fill in the rest over the next few days and be fully restocked at home.
Interesting to see you stack wood Joe. Any idea what percentage of your wood production ends up as nuggets?
Oh I have never thought about percentage but we can do the math when I think about it….I processed around 350 cords this year and have maybe 12 cords of junk.
Fully restocked now. Stacked, the pile is 3 cords on dimensions but there is more air space than a typical cord with consistent size and shapes.
Yeah those nuggets/shorts are a PITA to stack. I finally got it down to a science where i make a four sided cube/bin. Stack the front as normal and back fill. Works pretty good. Much to my surprise i sold a lot of them this season. Nicely done Joe.
I have probably cut, split and stacked 350 face cords this year and will sell around 250 face cords. About 5% is what I produce in cut offs. I don't let that stuff go cheaply since it is all very good wood and burns great in small wood stoves and Solo stoves. One of my deliveries tomorrow wants 20" pieces. I mainly cut to 16", but stack longer pieces separately for the occasional customer who wants longer pieces.
Hey if your “waste” wood is burning in your stove you’re ahead of the game. I’m in the camp of feeling satisfied burning chunkies
