Was out bucking some of the long stuff this morning on the old dilipated sawbuck (time for a new one!) and the mail lady had to get out to drop off a larger package.

I went to meet her and she said "my husband is doing the same thing today. You can never have too much wood." I enthusiastically agreed.

No one has ever come to my house and said that. Usually it's the exact opposite. Now this woman drives by my house 5 times a week, or is it 6?, and sees my 16-ish cords out there, so she knows how much wood there is here.

They're out there.... would have been perfect timing for the FHC business card.

Every once in a while... isn't it awesome to run into folks who totally understand the firewood thing. Cool.

No, never thought I would need them! I could leave her one with her Christmas "thanks." Great mail lady too, loves the dog and always pleasant.

I had a similar encounter this past summer. Old timer came to my house to deliver a load of loam while I was splitting, took one look at my hoard and said something like,

"now there is someone who understands about firewood."

I said "why do you say that, because I've got so much?"

"no because you've stacked it all bark down"

I posted a picture once a long time ago of a large pile, and immediately got an email from someone saying "there are a lot of people out there you could help with all that wood". My wife piped up and said, "we do help others that need wood, and their wood is in their wood pile" I always liked that quote.

Indeed, hearing that from the mail lady had to be nice. I hope you did invite them to get on the forum?!

They drop off packages at your house? Here we have to go to the post office in town to pick them up. They only deliver letters in the mail box which is down at the end of the road, about 1/2 mile from my house.

My mail lady just sticks packages on the front seat of my truck so as not to excite the 7 German Shepherds here. I always laugh when I go to jump in the truck and darn near sit on top of a package.

My mailman caught me taking temperatures on the wrapped pine pile - I hooked him up with some tomatoes and a couple Jalapenos so he wouldn't think I was completely insane, I do that regularly though, so he still probably thinks I'm a bit insane.....

Yeah, we had an old guy next door when I was a kid that we thought was a madman.
He gave us tomatoes, but we still thought he was off his rocker.
    The tomatoes were great.

But I'm not "OLD" - by the normal standard.
I have rockers on the front porch I never sit in so - off the rocker applies;)

Perhaps because your driveway is so long is why they don't leave the packages?
