If you ain't squattin you ain't doing it right. How long do you think that wood was on the ground? In the National Forest here, Aspen and Ponderosa Pine seem to rot within a year. Lodgepole Pine is good for several years on the ground. There are areas of so much downed timber but it's completely rotten.

That is why my wife informed me I would not get any more black locust! Another hoarder no longer on forum) brought me some in the back of his Equinox when he learned I had never burned any and we don't have any here.

It was from 2011. We had Hurricane Irene August 2011 with a freak wet snow/ice storm two months later.
We both love the shelf life of BL once its on the ground. One log was resting on a cherry limb which had started to grow around it.

If your truck looks like a dog scratching it's azz on the ground, but it's because it's loaded down with wood....that's one of the few justified reasons for "the squat"....

He did buck a few rounds, but cutting 8" mulberry it's hard to get a feel for the saw. Best to bury the bar in a large oak round for that.

I haven’t cut any dead/down/barkless black locust since the summer of 2020. I forgot how nice it splits. I swear the bulk of it is dry enough to burn right away. It’ll sit until at least next winter though. No real NEED to burn it with what I have on hand. Got a nice pile of splitter trash I can burn as kindling right away.

I’m glad I have a splitter for the apple especially. I remember from the last one I cut in November 2020 how gnarled they are.

That barkless stuff makes some nice splitter shards. Got a few bags should you need more.

It ended up being just shy of a face cord of locust.
I plan to get at least another load this winter, once inventory under cover plummets some more and space opens up.

Lol. There aren’t very many trucks out there that have hauled as much firewood as Brads!

Yeah it would be interesting to go back five yeas and tally how much it has hauled. Maybe for chits and giggles ill start a tally on how much wood it hauls in 2024.

Limited time to cut today, but every little bit helps. A little more black locust plus some elm, because it was convenient and a nice size to work with.
