As some of you know, I bought a 562XP during the 20% off sale that was going on through HL Supply. I didn't use it for a bit, shiny new toys are hard to get scratched up. Anyways, I've got 4-5 cuttings with it, maybe 5 hours of run time so far.

Today, I pulled it a part to clean and flip the bar, de-gunk sawdust inside the bar cover and pulled the top off to spray out dust/dirt. I then went to clean the air filter and all of the reviews I've read say that the Husqvarna filtration these days keeps the filter very clean. To my surprise, the bolt for the air filter was not tight. I turned it about 1/8 turn off and it was loose, thinking "maybe this is a 1/4 turn system" only to realize it's fully threaded. In shock, I pull the filter off to see course sawdust and fines all inside the intake boot. Sh--------t...... Called HL Supply and emailed them photos of the saw. I'm hoping Husqvarna covers this under warranty. I didn't think to double check the factory's work and make sure the filter was put on correctly. Any thoughts?

Yikes I hope you get that sorted out. That’s not typical for Husqvarna filtration.

Everybody wants top dollar for their product these days especially companies that have a history of reliability & dependable workmanship. Problem is most of these same companies put profit above craftsmanship anymore & nobody seems to care at the top. So a sad turn of events in manufacturing. :picard:

Does anyone have a picture of their 562XP or similar 572XP, 550XP with the air filter off? I'm confused about the missing plastic at the base where the filter bottom presses up against. It makes me wonder if that's normal or a defective part on the saw?

My 562 is an older one that had the original design air filter that would pass fines into the carb throat. When the upgrade came out I got one and all has been well since. I’ll try to get a picture of it tomorrow

My biggest concern is the coarser sawdust at the bottom of the carb throat. My only guess is that the filter wasn't seated correctly and tight. To me, the base being cut out would be a prime area for dirt to get through since the air filter can't press up against a base.

I did thoroughly look at the inside of the filter and it's spotless. That 1" line of dust on the bottom of the filter seems to be the culprit. Sandhillbilly take a picture of the bottom of your filter and I'm curious if that same dirt line is there.

Plenty of dust on the outside because last time out I was cutting some dead ash with a less than ideal chain.
Looking pretty good on the inside though. I did wipe a bit of grease around the inside of the sealing edge upon reassembly, just because.

Not familiar with 5 series but.. it’s a common practice for me to smear grease around the base of the filter on ones w/o a clamp. Especially the low top system on my 394. It leaked fines while milling. Grease stopped it till I was able to get the parts to convert to clamp.

Another set of pictures, saw has cut only about 6 cord. Nut was firmly on filter.

I smear grease on the filter base of my MS 362 and Makita 7900 and it keeps a lot of debris out. It’s cheap insurance.

It looks like you're running the Mesh filter? I was reading that it is only recommended for running in the snow/winter months. Wheras the felt filters more of the fines out

It looks like yours has a tighter seal but still wants to bring in some fines in that area above the carb. Does anybody have any thoughts on this idea? I was thinking of taking a flat piece of metal/plastic/3D printed plastic and sitting it on top of the intake. Then the filter would seal all the way around on a base on a continuous flat surface. I believe the reason it isn't on the OEM version is so the top of the carb can be accessed.

I guess I didn’t know I had a choice. Was either all that was available or came with the upgrade kit from HLsupply, I don’t remember, been a year or so.
As far as snow/winter filters, I understand the reasoning, but the cutting is what makes the dust, not like we are running our saws up and down a dusty gravel road. So I guess I figure if’n it will work in one season it should work in the others

To be honest, I think they put the snow filters in all the upgrade kits to get rid of supply and it forces you to buy the felt filter. I cut in dead standing timber in the National Forest (creates a bit of dust) or green material at the dump.

Santa brought me a 562XP last year and it came with the felt filter. I always go through my stuff before running it, even if I buy it at a dealer. Santa bought the saw at RK ( big box store ) so I made doubly sure everything was correct before I used it. Bought an extra filter from Stahl’s and it was a felt filter, they aren’t cheap either.

I have always done that with new motorcycles and will be adapting it to chainsaws. And you're right, filters aren't cheap! Kind of ridiculous to pay $60 for a tiny filter
