DUST! At least for me. Add to it living in a stone farmhouse, gravel lane and driveway, 3 dogs (2 long haired) who tear around the gravel driveway and we have the perfect formula for a dust storm. We dust everyday and it's a losing battle. So if you ever stop in for a visit in the winter, don't mind the dust!!
We run a couple of these. I know they help because when it's time to clean the filters, they're disgusting. Collections
Don’t mind the dust, long as the fire is going and we warm. Can we go on the porch and have a cigar? Don’t wanna wear my welcome out lol.
Yeah, we'll have to gomon the porch for the cigars. If we don't, I may be tossed into the stove by the wife. I thought about one of those, but wasn't sure how well they worked
We’re pretty much once-a-dayers with the dusting and vacuuming - in the room with the insert. Depending on how messy things get. I have really come to appreciate wood that produces more coals and less ash for this reason. Woodburning certainly keeps us fastidious types plenty busy.
I hear ya, buddy. We live on a dirt road. 3-5 cars drive by the house in 24 hours. But when they do, I feel like the dust from the road hangs in the air for hours.
The stove creates less dust in the winter than the red clay does in the summer. We live on a dirt/gravel road and look forward to the first rains.
Yeah, dust is everywhere. We have learned to live with it. I go to grab a book off the shelf and it's like it has been there for 100 years! Keeping the computer fans clean used to be a real chore, but now with the only remaining computer in the far end of the house, it stays pretty clean. We switched to ipads and they are much less maintenance and very handy. I have mine with me when I'm working so I can look up parts, use the calculator, take pictures as I go, and even talk to people while I work or listen to music if I am in the rare mood. Our driveway is sand/river rock, so not a whole lot of dust. The neighbor just covered his driveway with limestone. Boy, what a dusty mess. I had forgotten how dusty the roads used to be when I was younger. He can't keep his vehicles clean for anything.
I have a box fan about 20 feet way from the stove, blowing towards it, pulling cool air down the basement stairs. I went through 2 round floor fans in the past 6 years. I am guessing all the dust and dog hair caused them to go. The box fan I have now has a 20 x 20 filter bungeed to the back. Hopefully I only have to change the filter once per season. It seems to cut down on half the dust.
Having enough wood, keeping ahead, and scrounging for wood and getting it back to the house out back to process. I enjoy the processing part, splitting and stacking, a lot of work yes but it's a bit therapeutic for me and I spread it out over the year.
