A couple of months ago we were notified that there was a data breach at a local college where my wife was a professor when she retired. They had automatic check depositing so our checking account # as well as her social security # and other info was stolen. They offered the normal band aid of credit monitoring etc. to cover their butts. We immediately closed our checking account and opened a new one. Our credit info was possibly involved so we opened a new credit card account. No further problems until we got a fraud alert on the new card. Charges being made in the Philippines. Closed the new account and opened another one. Now received a notice from Comcast that their data has been breached. WTH? We have automatic Comcast payments thru our card so here we go again. Up til now we have had no problems with our credit card, probably because we don't use it much. We have our credit thru our bank and they have been more than accommodating, prompt and understanding but what bothers me is that they aren't extremely alarmed by all this...just business as usual. If this is what our credit system has become I figure it is due for a meltdown. Sorry for the rant but this whole business has chapped my hide!
I had posted a couple weeks ago that my credit card had been hacked/used fraudulently by the Comcast overseas call center. Others have mentioned problems connected to Comcast. Someone called my wife this afternoon saying they were from Comcast. She hung up and dialed the number that had shown on caller ID. Got a recording saying it was not a valid number. Comcast seems to come up a lot relating to fraud lately.
That sucks. I've had credit card info stolen n used in the past. Just alot of headache getting it straightened out. For me kinda worrisome in my head. It's kinda cool how relax the banking/credit card people are to deal with it but definitely makes one wonder. Reading your story reminds me why i try not to save my credit card info anywhere online except paypal. Some bill stuff they do automatically tho. I pay all my bills online and enter card info each time. Pain in the behind either way it seams.
We don't have anything that automatically draws $'s from our accounts. Bills are paid with either a CC or a check.
My Comcast experience wasn't an automatic payment. We had thought we were paying for a service call/equipment via credit card over the phone. Big mistake. Some dirt bag in their call center had other plans. If we had thought a minute, we would have realized those charges would appear on our monthly bill.
Couple weeks ago we had our bank reach out saying someone was trying to open new account w/ our info. Sounded weird so wife drove into the brick & mortar office. They had her close out our original account and open a new one. No fraudulent charges were made thankfully. We have Comcast too (but not for much longer) and heard about that breach. Haven't gotten any communication from them about it yet but we don't do the auto pay, not sure that makes a difference. With all the money lost, you'd think banks would just do the credit monitoring thing for everyone cause it's in their best interest?
Not through comcast, but someone was using my son's name, who at the time was a juvenile and had a capital one card. They weren't charging anything but somehow using it to scam state unemployment compensation. They would have $$ deposited on this card and then immediately drain it down by a payment app. They were scamming 3 states. I reported it. Capital one could of cared less. I did several years ago have my bank card hacked. Someone tried to get a hotel room, PX drugs and an escort in canada. Bank shut them down quick. I told my wife, someone was having a better time than me. I got the ol
That's funny! We have had no further repercussions here so maybe this rough patch is over with. I do believe that in spite of the many holes in the credit industry, they make so much money that they can afford to just patch leaks instead of fixing the system!
