Frozen ground from the high summits down to here, massive snow melt with 1"-2" of rain already with another 2"-3" of rain expected is expected to lead to heavy flooding today!

Very windy in CT this AM. I heard something fall in the backyard around 5AM. Still too dark to see what it was.

Stuck for the time being (no big deal). All roads around me closed due to heavy flooding (one with a rockslide as well). River closest to me is up eight feet in the last 24 hours and still rising (I'm far enough away where it won't be an issue).

Ice storm of 2008? Hold my beer! That didn’t hold a candle to 1998. 3 solid days of freezing rain plus a few more days of sporadic freezing rain. Wasn’t a power line still off the ground here.

We aren’t far off flooding here either. Won’t affect me but roads will be shut down. No power except places on generator. Been getting 70 mph gusts pretty steady. Trees and lines down everywhere. 30 mile trip the long way to go 5. I’m in for the night. Plenty of fuel for the night and tomorrow.

2-3" of rain since yesterday coupled with temps in the 40's has washed away what little snow we have had this fall. Temp was 41 @ 4 this afternoon and now 33 and snowing. Supposed to get 3-5" by tomorrow morning up here in Ontario

Lots of trees down into power lines and houses, and blocking roads in my general area - and that was from the wind, before the rain really got going. My place is good although my town does have washouts it has been dealing with all night. My place got a bit over 2.5" of rain, but other places in the state are showing more than 5".

Up north got hit hard with melting snow joining the rain. The frozen ground does not allow any of it to soak in. Campton was looking scary and a bridge in Gorham too. The Pemi was supposed to crest at around 21' for major flood stage.

The Saco in Conway reached its second-highest flood stage on record yesterday. Main (and sometimes only) roads around here are still closed, and some will be for a while. 302 will be closed for a while not far from me and is the only road through the mountains without having to make one long detour. Glad I made a grocery-store run for perishables on Sunday!

    TOWN OF CARROLL POLICE DEPARTMENT·

Road closure update as of 5:30am on 12/19/23:

Route 3 South at the Route 302 intersection remains closed pending a bridge inspection this morning.

Route 302 West to Bethlehem is open with the breakdown lane closed next to the river.

Route 302 East to Bretton Woods is closed this morning as well, but expected to be opened up in a few hours. However, Route 302 from Crawford Notch to Bartlett will be closed for a couple days.

Just over six inches of rain in under 24 hours. Add in the snowmelt, frozen ground, already over-saturated soil, and fact that we're ringed by mountain ranges, and there was nowhere for the water to go.

Hope they tell the train folks!

Wonder if they hit it fast enough they can just skim right over?? :D
