I recently ordered (2) Oregon 24” chains off Amazon and one 18” chain from SawSuppliers out of Wisconsin. What are the odds all 3 are wrong? Pretty high for me apparently. The 24” chains should’ve been 0.063 and they came in 0.058. The 18” should have been 0.063 and it came in 0.050. No more mail order chains for me ever again, from anyone. Now to start going directly to saw shops where I can lay eyes on what I’m buying first. At least the Tsumura light bar is correct. Definitely looking forward to getting it mounted to my Husky and seeing how it performs.

That's frustrating. It's almost like someone without a clue about saw chains sells them. :headbang:

That was my thought with Amazon anyway. I’m trying hard to cut these people some slack considering it’s the holidays and I imagine they’re under the gun to get product out the door. As far as the other outfit goes, mistakes can and do happen. I’m just glad I’m not a professional tree guy in this instance, waiting for these parts to do a paying job.

Oh yeah, a Husqvarna virgin I am no more ;) This saw belonged to my grandfather and I’m giving it a new life with the 24” light bar. It’ll be used sparingly as needed.

My 2 series regularly wear a 28” for bucking and a 24” for noodling. Tsumura light bars have been great for me, as soon as there are some more premium light’s in D009 28” I’ll grab one of them up. The weight savings is significant on your body as well.

Good prices, check. Mobile friendly site… I’ll have to check it from the regular PC tomorrow. From my phone it doesn’t give me the option of choosing a gauge other than 0.050, although it does show the different options. I’ve been kicking around the idea of doing what you do and buying rolls rather than loops. Much more cost effective that way. I’ll have to look into what’s involved.

Congrats on the new bar. No return on the chains?

Ive bought most of my chains on ebay and have had great luck and great deals. Read the package they come in to be sure they are what you need. I buy only Stihl chains so i just read the box/package they come in. Ill ask for pics to confirm.

I set up a return for the 2 that came from Amazon and will drop them off to UPS this week. I contacted SawSuppliers to see about returning and exchanging.

Returns a PITA for sure. Knock on wood (BL of course) ive had good luck on ebay.

Do you grind every time you sharpen or hand file on occasion? Does the grinder take a lot of metal off?

I haven’t touched my grinder since last November actually, when I went through and ground all my 18” and 20” Stihl chains. About 3 months ago I ran out of sharp chains but started filing again. My filing game has gotten much better as of this year. I like the grinder for chains that are rocked badly, where I have to take a lot off. The grinder can take off a lot or the tiniest amount. It’s all in how you set it up.

On the subject of chains, has anyone seen a chain with rakers like this before? I’d be curious to know what the deal is with them. Seems to me they’d be a drag more than anything. This was one of the two chains that came with the Husqvarna 61 that was my grandfather’s. The other chain had “normal” rakers.

I’ll also recommend this shop for ease of use and very quick shipping. They had a sale on chain over the summer and I ended up with 2 cases of 30 chains each, one for each saw. It ended up being cheaper than buying it by the roll and making my own. I’m good on chain for awhile now unless I add a bigger saw.

I never have. Looks like a round file could be used to lower the rakers instead of a flat.

Yep, it’s called Vanguard. I’ve gotten a loop or two over the years with used saw “scores”. I’ve ground off the flat part before. Cuts fine but adjusting those depth gauges with my progressive depth plates is impossible as they are.

It's Oregon chain and yup, called Vanguard. I've only seen it in chisel. I get along with it but find it's harder to file the depth guages.(alot of metal to file and remove)

Thanks Jason. I'll do the same thing you did and cut off the extra tab. I can see how having to touch that up as the teeth get shorter would be problematic, and also having all that extra rotating mass might bog the saw a little bit.
