Went to a small GTG yesterday. Usually this time of year it is cold and snowy. Not so this year.

Cut up another cart load of "just a bit too long for the furnace" pieces yesterday. Enough snow had melted that I was able to haul them outside and leave the sawdust in the woods.

From here on out, there will be enough room to cut those long pieces inside the wood storage room. I'm sure by the time of the next cart load, there'll be snow all over the place.

Too long to go on the top of a load, at an angle if needed? I've burnt some pretty long pieces that way...

You know, they just may fit that way.....but I doubt if they're on an angle. If it gets cold enough, I'll give it a try. :handshake:

I do that many times myself. I've gotten better at cutting rounds to the correct length though, so I see this less. I do cut the outdoor fire wood longer though, and sometimes I lose track. Lol

Never was a problem for me......until I switched out furnaces after cutting up 2 logging truckloads of firewood!

I destroyed a stove doing that. Wood was too long cuz it was cut for another stove most would fit at an angle some was still too long. Once I stuffed it in there they would catch fire and I wasn’t pulling it out then. So I pushed the door shut, deforming and poking holes in the baffle. This was early on in my solo burning career. I think Dave is more seasoned than that but someone else reading might want to take caution.

Agreed, the IS is rated for 22" east/west and I have had 27 or 28" stuffed in. Just can't be too big diameter and can't get a full load of course.

Well, that is a nice sentiment and all, but very few people even know the town I live in, much less the actual location. So that search would pretty much involve the "Lost Members" thread.

You should have a GTG to know what a long piece really is. I think the record is 27"; that is for a stove that needs 16"
