Not sure where to post this ? Non epa stoves ? The Smokehouse ? ODW burners ? Modern EPA stoves ? Funny picture thread ? Lol………. No he wasn’t burning leaves and there is a OWB there in all that smoke. I could tell what the farmer was burning once I got close to his place . This is right next a state highway and about 1 mile from town .
I would not have guessed that was from tires...I've seen dads old CB6048 do the same, or worse, on pure firewood...cloud so bad that as it drifted across the road out front, people were hitting their brakes before driving through it, visibility down to probably 20-30'! Installed a HeatMaster G10000 downdraft gasifier and now you can rarely tell if its running or not, at least not without going over to check it, see if its even on!
Rookie. Seasoned tire burners know you wait until dark to fill the firebox like that. Daylight is for smoldering, railroad ties, household garbage and diapers. Jeeze. Owl
I don't think there are many places (maybe none) in MI that have outlawed OWB but there may be a few near cities.
Not speaking of the boilers being not legal but the act of burning tires. Sent from my SM-S536DL using Tapatalk
This is normal occurrence around where I live. Maybe not as bad as in the picture but close enough. If you drive on the highways through rural counties during the morning commute the smoke settles in the valleys and around the roads. It’s a poor representation of the wood burning community as a whole. Tires burn black as night and can be seen for miles and miles. Saw a guy burning tires at 2pm in the afternoon on a Tuesday in the county south of me. There’s other products that are illegal to burn as well, vinyl siding, shingles, tires, carpet and asbestos.
A guy in the neighborhood of a work partner used to burn like that. Seemed he would cut his wood as needed! I told my partner that I had a OWB and he flipped out telling me how much of a PITA it is for the neighborhood. I told him the guy in his neighborhood is burning wrong and invited hi over to my place to see it in operation. No thanks. A few weeks later, we pull up to my house and he asks why aren't you using your OWB? I am and have been since Oct. "Cripes....there is no smoke coming out of it! " Wishlist I don't know what the guy in your pic is burning, but I agree it isn't tires as others have stated.
There was a guy next door to the old shop that worked for the town and took all the pine trees they cut from road sides. He did just that. We were in a low spot and on some days there would be a thick green smoke in the air. I was convinced he only got away with it because he was in the good old boys club. Haven’t seen it burning in a while. He either destroyed the boiler or someone higher in the food chain got there panties in a wad.
We get smoked out by a neighbors boiler more often than not. I'm usually not one to complain, and haven't, but she needs a taller chimney. Just a stubby on it. She's also a pita to deal with so a trip to the township might happen eventually. I hate that idea but... Anyway, It fills our yard and woods. It used to get sucked into our house through a fresh air inlet on the furnace. We had to block it off. Not the combustion air inlet, a fresh air exchange. Not all furnaces have them anyway. We'd wake up several times a month thinking the house was on fire. Ive been documenting it. This was a couple days ago. Whole neighborhood was in her fog. It doesn't look like I was in it in the pictures because I'm looking out of it.
Fresh air inlet on residential is bogus anyways...unless you have a VERY tight house, and if so then it needs a heat recovery unit anyways...IMO.
He was most definitely burning tires , seen them when I drove by his house . I believe he was trying to cut them up as he had a small flat trailer next to the boiler with tires on it . Looked like some tools as well next to the tires . Maybe he was mixing them in with other stuff but tires being burnt I can guarantee .
I concur. I consulted a friend in the business for over 30 years before closing it off. Besides a neighbors smoke, it sucks in road dust and pollen.
