    Seen an engine get replaced because an idler pulley bearing seized up. Guy just said she’s junk and ordered a crate engine. Wasn’t he shocked when he swapped all the externals and it was still seized. That dude was just plain stupid and his stupidity was well known.

    I've never seen a seized idler pulley make an engine not run...but if someone really did replace an engine for that reason...dude is beyond stupid!

    90s GM V8 would do that with a 7 rib serp belt. The 4 rib wouldn’t, it would give up easy. Idlers or alternators would give up and instantly lock them. If they were up in RPMs it would just smoke the belt in most cases. Low RPM was instant shutdown. They made some changes when they went to the Vortex design and it didn’t happen anymore. I think those old toilet bowl injected babies were just so underpowered it they couldn’t overcome it. And yes, we harped on all the dealers about if you have a seized engine first step is to remove the serp belt and give it a try again.
