Adjustment tools have yet to materialize. Fairly certain they fell off the buggy, now burried in leaves. Ordered new cheapie set from Bezos. Temps about to get cold here and I have lots of remaining vacation time to use yet.
Used some today. 60 and sunny. Time to go fishing. Have had my eye on this one for a while. Finally was the right day. Fatty wedge because no top and dead standing for a while. Nice yield.
I was looking at the 4th pic and it almost looks like a deer laying down. It is beyond the bar of the saw. I see the body, head and ears. I'll leave now.
It was a pretty stellar day. Those are deer feeders. Will be firing one up here soon. I don't feed for bait. I throw corn during the cold months trying to help the deer winter better.
Funny you mention that. There is a particular doe that lives in these woods. Yesterday, as I was tractoring towards the bigger oak I cut, I get the feeling I'm being watched and look up the hill above me to see her standing there, looking back at me. She doesn't even begin to run. She stood on the hill to the left of the 'deer' in that photo watching me until the crash boom happened. Seen a big boy in the first five minutes on tractor. He wasn't around when I went out looking with a gun.
Crummy weekend weather wise. Saturday was a complete bust. Yesterday was a muddy mess. Changed oil in my pickup then couldn't stand it and went and bucked a couple of the logs I got Friday. Weather clearing this week and cooling off a bit, hopefully the ground starts hardening up a bit. Decided this weekend that I am going to try a roadside stand to sell some splits this coming year. There is a campground just south of me on the same road, but it's not a primitive camp, so unsure how much wood they might use but I got some palletwood for free to make the stand from and plenty of splits so why not, I figure. Selling location will be in a decent place to pull off, without being a place I'm uncomfortable with random people stopping at. Close to a neighbor's house who is home most of the time.
I'm at a good spot for that too but I've considered the headache of potential thievery and I'm just not wanting to concern myself with it. I wish you best of luck.
It is a concern. I won't know if it's gonna be a problem unless I give it a go. A trail cam will be the only real monitor of sales.
Stuck inside during rain or snow drives me crazy too. Good luck with the wood stand. Keep up posted as you build it.
Likely be pretty simple until I test the waters. If any success is met, I will build a 'nice' one. Currently, I have a couple gaylord pallets that should work as roof and floor and will just BS the rest of it together. For some reason...I want a nice hand painted sign on it. I am personally unable to produce such, so I gotta find me an artist.
Keep it simple is my plan too. Maybe try staples or office depot for a sign that can be made or maybe buy letters and make your own. Masking tape on plywood, spray paint, dry, remove tape and walla...a simple sign. The less i take out of my pocket the better.
Spent some time restacking some splits that I am moving, then went and broke up those rounds. There's a service rig parked at one of the wells. Not sure what they are working on.
Restacked another cord of splits yesterday then went and put the last pieces of steel on the shelter roof. Just need a cap now. Waiting to see if some mentioned conveyor belting becomes available, otherwise will have to order a steel one from a local place.
Finished the restacking and then split 1/2 cord or so of some branch wood I had laying. Also, first firewood sale today. Brother of a coworker who lives in fancy neighborhood next to Country Club. Just a pickup load for his fireplace. 95% oak 5% Sugar Maple. He was happy and helped me unload and stack a bit. He had some wood stacked but it wasn't much of anything decent. He knew this and was why he bought some from me. Looked like it's been there a while and the few pieces I moved felt awful light. Chatted with him for a bit once wood was unloaded. Nice guy.
Drug the splitter up and made splits of the pieces above today. Got it all stacked and covered. Saw this guy when I rode up to the shelter. I think he was the one running does on first day of gun season.
Way to get it done. Wish i could drag the splitter next door to storage and start splitting the red maple im working, but the yard is like walking on a sopping wet sponge. Nearly 6' of rain from last Sunday and more tomorrow night into Monday! Well at least it isnt snow. I was driving home last night with a half cord of BL in back. I go slow with a load of wood and thought to myself to watch for deer crossing. Half mile down the road i see one come out of the woods and cross in front of me.
