33/69 Lumber cutoffs now. Elm in a few minutes

 

Bald faced hornet*. I’m drying it out, I’m going to schellac it and hang it up somewhere. Or give it to my niece and nephew for “science.” I should have got to it earlier, it took a 30 ft fall and used to be in much better shape.

 

Have you done this shellac thing before? We have a couple hanging around we have just left them as is.

 

34. Cherry and Maple

 

Never tried it. The nest took a 20+ foot fall. It is going to need something to hold it together long term. It’s a shame it’s a smidge bigger than a basketball but tear drop shaped, it took quite the hit. I’m just going to make it up as I go and see how it turns out.

I’ll take some pics, I have a smaller one that is still in a tree much lower. I might try it on that one first.

 

32 here now and the rain that melted the snow yesterday has changed back to snow and now everything is white again. Maple and Ash in the stove.

Fog or frost in the air this am. Stove is working on some Oak yet.
Hooking up a wheelbarrow today. To my arms!
Bringing up a couple loads while the ground is without snow. May as well while it's easy.

 

Sitting at -6C/21F this morning and some 20-25 mph winds to go with, so feels a bit chilly. Pine and scraps.

 

Back to burning tonight. It’s 38 now, forecasted to drop to 27 overnight. I’ve got some chunks of white pine, black cherry and black walnut going at the moment.

 

Those things make my skin crawl Id toss it in the fire lol.

I used to work in pest control. I am far more sketched out by in this order; bed bugs, roaches and fleas. I had the nest in the deep freeze for 5 days, no worries here.

 

I am paranoid about bed bugs anytime we go on vacation or stay in a hotel. Def dont want to ever have to deal with those.

Yeah, I travel some for work here and there. I don’t sleep in the tub or anything but all my bags stay in the bathroom. I have seen some apartments that were NIGHTMARE FUEL.

 

23 now but the wind is putting the temps into the single digits. Good night to be inside

 

Snow flurries off and on through out the day at temps hovering at 32, cooling down now and came thru the notch where it was snowing like a son of gun. Lighting the wood stove soon, as the the first thing we did upon getting home was light the oven to 425 and cook up some frozen pizzas. Leaving the shut down oven door open to "harvest that heat" . Life is good.
