I see a somewhat local one for sale with 8370 miles listed for $2500. It looks in good shape from the pics anyways. It would get mostly used around the 'farm' hauling sap/firewood/deer etc. Is it a decent machine/is that a decent price?
They’re great machines. Although if you ask around here, you’ll probably end up believing they had to put $20K into it to get it last 8000 miles
I have a 06 Polaris 700. Hooked to my wood trailer or splitter 75% of its life and has been bulletproof !
For that purpose, I’d find a single lung 500 over the double lung 700. that was the advice I adhered to from the mechanics here when I bought my sportsman 500 HO. the 700 liked to be cold blooded and difficult to start. Known for scoring cylinders. So I avoided them
Nothing wrong with the 700, they did have a little overheating issue that required a few updates but other than that they’re good. The 600 is an under bored 700 and the 800 parallel twin is a stroked 700 to 760cc that they ran till just a few years ago. I owned a 700 carb and 800 efi, very close friend had a 2004.5 600 that I maintained for him since new. He’s crippled from the waist down and it was his legs till about 4 years ago only one issue where it left us because it blew a valve cover gasket when it was brand new. The dealer was supposed to put a new breather in the engine and didn’t well the old style would freeze in extreme temps and pressurize the case blowing the gasket. This was all on the dealer not the machine and never gave us any more issues afterwards for 4000 miles of acting like a tractor. He pulled something 80% of the time it was in use and was great since then. The day of the gasket failure was -38 and we were spearing Northerns and it started fine.
I opted for efi when I bought mine as I had heard that they were cold blooded. Starts and idles great even when it’s below freezing.
