Got into some sugar maple and shag bark. Then some big cherry to top off the load. Had to work pretty hard for the cherry but that's what happens when you don't want to settle for less than a good load
This was all from logging fall of 22 and the sugar maple was spalted. Sugar just doesn't weather well unless it is cut, split and stacked. The cherry was fine and the hickory had been munched on by the borers which is normal. I have 3 or 4 cords of rounds now to be processed so I will try to get this split and stacked first, it should be fine.
Doesn’t get any better than sbh for me. I can only dream of it though. It’s a rare score. Beetles sure do love it. Great load.
Red maple is the same. Get it split and stacked and all is well. I am burning some 5 year old red now. Congratulations on the hickory.
One thing I didn't say yesterday was there is several more spots with tops I was working last year that may go bad. Farmer has never replanted the corn or bean fields so winter is usually good to get to areas. Well he put in cover crops this year so no driving to a few areas I was planning. Not to worry though I will get into something there or another farm I cut on. I just got a little spoiled last year with hardwood tops.
What is it? Many times they don't mind if you drive on cover crops (as long as you aren't cutting huge ruts) as it often gets plowed under in the spring anyways...but it all depends on who n what, some will harvest it too...
