You don't need the fastest saw to make heating fuel. Its definitely fun if they try to pull you into the log but not necessary.
I finished this mess up today. New piston / ring plus ported. It had every piece of saw dust on it from the beginning it looked like. I doubt it had ever been blown off one time. Probably why they burnt up the piston. I need to sharpen the 20' chain and turn the nephew loose on it. That is a vid despite saying photo... https://photos.app.goo.gl/sCkqZv5Lw3YPicyg6
Thanks bud 54cc of raw poulan pro powaaaaaa......lol I put a 3/4" id stinger out the side of the can after opening up things inside. Plus the increased intake duration, exhaust widening and polishing. Raised the upper transfers 8° and opened up the lowers a bit. Removed 12 grams off the piston. It's probably a grenade waiting to happen.
I’m with you on that. Ported saws are a hoot. Today I used my old truck and my old saw and I got it done but not quickly. I found those chains and I’m going to use them up. Probably $300 worth of chain (retail) from back in the day. Tomorrow I’ll be running the 362 and pizz revving in between cuts.
Thanks for noticing. Theyre all super common , nothin special. I just got into this wood cutting thing and picked up a chainsaw for first time in my life a couple years ago with the purchase of a new husky 445. It was a nice small saw to learn on. Over the next year, 2022, I got more into the hobby and picked up a couple McCulloch 10-10s off eBay. All run flawlessly and start up every time. I like the bigger 3/8 chain. They really rip! Found a couple other mcullochs in the scrap metal dumpster where I work, haven't really used them much but they run great. The homelite xl-12 I found at work in a dumpster and rescued it from the landfill. It also runs sweet as is but wanted to get some practice rebuilding a carburator so I bought a gasket kit then never got around to actually doing it. I think it needed a new fuel line also but the McCullochs were running so well the past few winters I just use them as my main firewood saws. What're the advantages of 3 point , five point , 4 pt dogs? I've successfully felled several 24"+ trees but cant recall if I even used the dogs or not. I do like the way they look. I haven't felled trees often enough to really get a feel for what they're designed for. You wouldn't normally use them for bucking would you ? I guess they kind of dig in either way if you're bucking big wood.
I’d say they are more of a fashion accessory. I’ve used saws for a long time and never thought about double bumper spikes or mega spikes until this forum. The only saw I’ve used that legitimately needed bigger dogs was a 460. The muffler got caved in with the oem bumper. Now most of my saws have double dogs.
Fashion accessory? You're not sposta say that kinda stuff out loud.... I get to do a fair amount of sawing trees down, imo that's when dawgs are an actual necessity. Now on the old school torque monsters like the 2100 above, dogging in was how they were made to really cut.
Im a vintage saw nerd. As far as the dogs go, I use them bucking and felling. I recently got a single of the 3 point dog from West Coast Saws but I haven't had time to to use it yet. It will keep the front of my saw off the logs.
I like vintage saws too, but I don't have any. I do have my dad's old Mac 10 10 that I want to rebuild one day.
It's mostly about the journey of getting them back to life for me. They are neat to run on occasion too.
Decided to get a new bar for the Echo XS4910. Ordered it from Sawsuppliers.com. Order and packing slip had .325 .050 gauge, bar I got was 3/8 .050 gauge. They shipped the correct bar, this is what I got... And the note... They even beat Stahl's price on chains, helped Secret Santa out......and free shipping. Good folks to deal with too. This is one good looking saw now... Modeling on some cherry splits It's ready to eat some oak...
That’s some real customer service right there. Lots of companies should take note. I had my crossbow limbs crack and got them replaced under warranty, 2 weeks later and a mountain of BS later I got my limbs. I would have been thrilled to get a hat or swag but I got nothing. Great customer service. Awesome saw Jeff!
