Last year sometime this sugar maple had snapped off and got hung up. Normally id be right on it, BUT on a hilly, rocky slope and wedged between a tulip poplar and another small sugar maple plus it was punky at the break. Opted to let mother nature take its course. Came down overnight as the tenant in the efficiancy heard it. The top looks solid and the trunk is off the ground. Just cutting on a rocky slope wont be fun. Friction scar on the poplar. Our backyard. The deck off the master bedroom. Dont know how soon ill get to it. Hoping the punk isnt too far up the tree.
Truck in the shop and neighbor out of state so i took the time to cut it up today. 201 did the limbing, 261 clean up duty. Bottom section was punky why it had snapped, rest of wood was good. Broke out the monster maul to half them and staged for future splitting. Ran a few smalls through the electric splitter. Most of it destined for bundle wood. View attachment 402036
Set up the electric splitter and had at them late yesterday. Only bogged on a couple. Slow but it will split straight grained wood rather easily even bigger rounds such as there. Almost finished them up
Starter close to dead and brakes were grinding. No tailboard though! Waiting for the call anytime soon.
That first pic of the green jungle makes me think of skeeters, ticks, and sweating profusely. It reminded me how much I love winter with no pests and everything is white and wood is easy to get.
X2. Why i had left it. Plus it was off the ground. Wood not touching the ground seems to have a longer shelf life.
