I want to say a sincere thank you to everyone who contributed information to help me make a decision on which way I should go to solve my heating issue. The Heritage just didn't have the guts to cut it. The BK King is everything I need and likely more.

That salesman should have been tarred and feathered. The Heritage could never heat an area the size of your home.Strange you only got 3-4 hours of burn time from the new Hearthstone with their Cats. Why put a Cat in if that's all it'll do ? With a pipe damper I get 8 hrs from my old Mansfield. He should have sold you the Mansfield or better yet the Equinox. The King will do fine. It's good not to have the smoke issue to deal with.

When I went back to the store in September to speak with them about the issue, that salesman was no longer with them. I did not mean to be misleading, the heritage would hold coals for much longer than 3 hours, but that was the time frame of the acceptable heat output. Because the stove was too small, and the need to constantly be adding wood, you would end up with a ridiculously deep bed of coals and very little heat. At that point, you would have to spend a couple hours feeding extra air through the open ash pan door to gently burn the coals down. It was kind of a tedious thing to do in order to not overheat the stove.

“To big to fast” this is exactly it along with everything else you’ve said.

yesterday I started my stove in the morning on a well burnt down bed of coals I put some wood in some kindling on top touched it off with the torch got it roaring closed the door went on my merry way then reloaded her full when it was burning hot but not fully warmed up. Boy did I struggle to get that full load fully burning. Its as if the new wood cooled the stove down.

I find in my GM 60 also from Heart Stone in the morning if the stove isn’t still in the cat “burn zone” I need to load with small split and kindling let that burn wide open until the stove if fully warmed up and the wood is either almost coals or it is bright red coals then i can load it full let it get blazing for 15 -20 minutes then start cutting it back and engaging the cat.

That's exactly what I found. A person needs to "build into it" to get the fire fully up and running. I think the cat stoves these days LOVE kindling and small stuff. That'll kick start the cat like nothing else!
