Right here, I'd have tied that rope onto the tree above the cut, then aggressively used the truck to pull it off...maybe even placing some of those rounds where it will likely hit the ground to act as rollers...or at least keep it from planting itself again.
Bound the saw up twice. Yesterday i took the powerhead off the bar. Today i pounded the chit out of wedges until i was able to wiggle it free. I had one as the kerf keeper but it still bound at the end.
I did tie it above the cut and it worked. Snapped the pic before i tied it off. Notice the wound on the neighboring tree in the next pic above.
Something additional would have been to wind the rope around the trunk in the direction that would have rotated it out of the tree its hung in (and then not tie the rope back into itself! ) I know, its easy to sit here and arm chair quarterback this...
When i got the brainstorm to tie it off again i thought it would go over. Admittedly my sphincter was a bit puckered when i was tying to a cut tree that could let go at any second. I didnt gun the PU when i did that and couldnt tell if it worked until i smoked the tires in the driveway. Ive never used the truck for something like this so i was being extra careful.
Ugh, hate it when they have to be taken out a piece at a time. You get the pucker factor again and again and again until the whole thing is down. Do you have to go back one more time? It didn't look like the whole tree was down yet?
Yes im thinking a couple more 4' chunks then down itll come. It was getting near dusk and a couple sprinkles had started.
Success. Its on the ground. Took the pole saw and cut what limbs i could reach. Tied off 5' up, bucked a 4' chunk then pulled with the truck. Give it tension and pulled forward quickly and i see it fall over in the rear view mirror. The only bad thing that happened was me stepping in a water filled divot over my boot top and my foot getting wet. Spent a little time with the 201 rear handle limbing and will buck the rest up next time.
Good job Brad. Sorry about the foot Wet out there. Almost fell on my butt a couple times today. Not used to the winter mud yet I guess.
Yeah the yard was squish city. The water table is high there and its like that a lot. I can only drive to the shed if its been dry for an extended period or if its frozen. Two things that dont happen often enough. The last time i drove back there was with a load of the tulip from your place. Ive used a few splits in bundles already. Have it stacked in front getting good sun and wind.
