I noticed that. Common on red maple. 20" the max diameter on buzz-saw's mill and this was 22". Trying to get it to his place is another story. Maybe i should learn to CSM.

made from rope so you don’t have a bullet in the system that could fail.

No block and tackle here. I never had the need for one.
Thats one of those things that the average guy might use on occasion , like now.

I'll bet someone didn't sleep too well last night.

Last time I got hung up, I looped the tow strap around it and pulled it down with the skidsteer.

When I do that I usually mention something about poop, and don't take any pictures.....

My first solution to a hang up is to jump on the tractor and pull it out, next is to fall another tree into it to knock it down if that's an option.
Thirdly, all the stuff that's already been mentioned here.
Usually if I don't have the tractor, doing the cut chunks off the butt thing is the route I go, simply because a chainsaw is the the only resource I have on hand...but that's very dangerous on a big heavy tree.
Regardless of what you do....be stinking careful!

Good luck man, dropping goes wrong for everyone once in a while. Can you drop the tree it's hung up in? Or is that on in bad spot/ off limits

That is a known effective method of being killed... I knew a professional timber cutter in Oregon who was killed doing that.

Well Brad I would laugh and kid ya about it to no end but I’ve done that myself way too often :)
You may remember my last hangup broke my foot and my saw LOL
So if you need someone with lots of experience give a holler.
Just be darn careful, think twice before making any move. Seems to be my Achilles heel.

I’ve often wondered if anybody tries that move. Can’t think of anything more tempting and dangerous. I’ve never had the gonads to attempt. Egos usually shot by the time that becomes an option.

This guy was in his mid 50s & had been cutting timber since he was a teenager, his dad and two brothers were also professional loggers.....he totally knew better.
I talked to both of the brothers after it happened, both said they couldn't understand why he had attempted it knowing full well it's too risky.
Sad part was, it appeared he really had no excuse for doing it in the first place.

Not doing that. Way too dangerous. Im friends with both the guy i cut the tree for and the neighbor. Wooded strip that buffers their properties.

Well i came to do battle today. Peaveys, rope, come-a-long, 25" bar for 400. IMG_4323.JPG IMG_4324.JPG Tried peavey first and it wouldn't budge...too far into the mushy ground. IMG_4325.JPG Looked at rigging up come-a-long to stump with rope but didnt think that would work. Unrolled the rope and had plenty to use the F150 to persuade it over. No such luck. IMG_4326.JPG IMG_4327.JPG IMG_4328.JPG Cleared some prickers and vines to cut a 4' chunk off. It drops and nope tree still hung up. I was able to cut a limb off and buck another 4'. Pounded wedges in to knock it free and it held on when i got a brainstorm to use the truck to pull it off/over. It did but still hung up. IMG_4331.JPG IMG_4332.JPG IMG_4333.JPG IMG_4335.JPG I bucked what i had on the ground and will be able to cut some limbs with my polesaw the next time and continue chunking it down. Luckily its not wedged in up above on the neighboring trees. IMG_4337.JPG IMG_4336.JPG

I would love to see the look on buzz-saw's face if i dropped a log that big at his place.
