My gun deer ends tomorrow as our weekend is booked with family. I have had many opportunities to harvest a buck but I am getting fussy in my old age. If he’s not past the ears he lives. I did have a shooter at 80 yards opening day afternoon but he was about 40 yards on the wrong side of a line fence that I can’t hunt. Not an excuse just a fact.

Our opener in northern WI last year was very cold, windy, and snowy, although not as much as you had.

Unlike last year though, I saw no shooters, so no deer this year, unless I use a tag down here down by my house.

I did see 6 deer opening weekend and tried to grow antlers on 2 does, one Saturday and one Sunday.

I got to see the trail cam footage, and there were a couple of nice bucks, and a lot of spike/ forks. Just not when/ where I was, and I hunted all day both Saturday and Sunday the entire day from the hut. Hunting should only get better for me in the coming years.

I got a porcupine that was in the hut with me all day Saturday apparently though. Saturday after shooting hours, I took the porky out with a 9mm. That personal Defense bullet sure made a mess at 4 feet.

There's a lot of nice deer in this thread. Congrats all!

I always tell my boys that you can't kill great bucks if you kill good ones.

PA firearms season started this morning. It was a brisk 25 degrees, but there was zero wind so it wasn't too bad. Had a small buck walk by @25 yds before shooting light and a doe walking around behind cover later on. Time to come in and do farm chores and then watch the UofM v.s OSUgame.

I did not get a PA license this year so my first firearm action will be this coming Monday for NJ's muzzleloader opener. I'm camping out in the bus at a state park campground and will be hunting with my grandfather's flintlock. I cant wait!

It was a beautiful day for the opener. I got skunked.
My son saw a real nice 8 point and then a 6 in the evening, but they were too far for him as he is a die hard archery hunter. Well this time of the year he uses a xbow.
Im off for 3 days, I know where Im sitting.

Cold front and snow showers may get the deer up and moving a bit more for opening gun day here. One can always be optimistic.

So my boy shot this one on the 17th or 18th. He mentioned it was a bich dragging it. We noticed that it was a bit bigger across the chest than the others hanging at camp.
Most bucks in our area are 115-135 lbs dressed. 115 being 1.5 years old, 2.5 being 125 lbs, 3.5 being 135ish. Almost always within 5 lbs. This ol’ boy hit the scales at 172 lbs.

Our gun deer has ended here in Wisconsin. I was a deer watcher this year. Counted 14 bucks with a rifle in my hands.
An update on the 170 inch class buck I saw twice this summer and fall? He broke off his left antler in late October and my neighbor tells me another neighbor shot him Friday. He weighed 165# hanging dressed and only had his 6 point right side rack intact.

I would have loved it if he made it through another hunting season but oh well,,,
