Not one of my proudest moments as a feller!:emb: 22" DBH red maple...one of several im taking down (thread to follow soon) went awry and got hung up. It was aimed to the edge of the grass/woods line. (see pic #2) I mustve had an ADD moment and sliced through the hinge and lost it. :picard: Had a couple wood wedges tapped into the back cut. Shouldve stopped and worked it that way. Hindsight always 20/20. Bucked a round to get it off the stump then a 4' chunk and its stuck. No cant hook with me to try and roll it. Disgusted,:hair: i walked away as i need to hack down a pricker patch to keep working it. Ill bring the cant tomorrow and see what i can do. No way to winch or pull it out as the yard is too squishy. Hate to hit the "like" button on this. It's pretty tricky to cut a section out like you did. Is there anyway you can pull from the stump with a come-along or something?

I was gonna leave it like that and try rolling with the cant hook tomorrow...a technique which has worked for me in the past. (thanks to imwiley1 for this tidbit) I did get a round then a 4' chunk cut off. The 400 did get bound up and i removed the powerhead from the bar then used a sledge and wedge to snap the chunk free.

Ill try rolling then section it down if that doesnt work. I shouldve had a 25" bar for felling as the tree was bigger than it looked.

Been in similar situations like that, but I was able to use a tractor or truck to get me out of a pinch. Be careful with it.

Do you have a rope? Tie to tree, extend out come a long, make a loop in the rope. You will also need a strap to hook up come a long to another tree.
Does BuzzSaw have a block, sling and 200’ rope? I’d surely help you out if I was not so far away.

Dont know. Ill have to ask.

The hung up tree can only fall to the left of the tree its snagged on/in so i have that going for me. If i can pull the bottom to the right the top will go left. This may be more fun that i thought.

Appreciate the offer my friend. :handshake:

With some luck, it will be on the ground when you get there tomorrow.

    Towing straps work as well.

Were you showing off with your 500i with that wedge you cut out?! I run into this a lot in the National Forest. Once it hangs up, one thing I've tried is cutting half the hinge off on the side I want it to roll towards. At times with enough weight, it will roll it out of the hang. Otherwise, I start cutting up the base and letting it slide down. If you can cut at 30-45 degree angle, it sticks into the ground as you cut lengths off.

I also bought a cheap braided winch rope on Amazon for $80, 100 ft rope.

FarmerJ What is a soft shackle? I have a number of different size shackles but I have never heard of a soft one.:handshake:

Thats the MS400. Humbolt notch. Shouldve had the 500 with a 25 or 28" bar for the felling. Couple of the other trees are the same size. Lesson learned here.

Edit, no pics of saw but was the 400

Here's to hoping it is on the ground tomorrow. Those are scary. I prefer snatch straps and keeping my distance from the whole thing. A couple tugs and hopefully it will be on the ground. Be safe!

That tree would have been great for milling, lots of Ambrosia streaks!
