Same here. Take a local population of them out and a new family moves right in to take their place. Unless all the farmers and sportsman shooters across the UK went out week after week to plink a few, their numbers won't be affected much. It's just like wild pigs here across the south and south-central US. They breed in greater numbers than are being picked off by rifles.
Yes they are. Rotten Lil mfers. When we declared war on them several years ago we killed 23 in a two week time span in the back yard.
No. I have hit them with a 58 gr .243 Winchester though at 4100 fps. pink mist is an apt description.
Our reds are truly destructive. they will get into the attic and wreak all sorts of havoc on buildings and wiring.
Our problem is the dammed ground squirrels! Holes are everywhere. A big cat has been coming around and I think I'm putting a water bowl out.....
So before the browning arrives I'm trying to decide on some optics. The main reason for the purchase is that my son and I are starting a small collection. He's going on a hog hunt and I'm just looking to shoot paper, for now anyway. I've not shot for over 30 years so I'm gonna suck. So help me to decide if you could as I'm a tad lost. I've been shown a green holographic sight with a magnifier that was intriguing along with scopes ect. I don't want unnecessary complexity but I'd like all the reasonable advantages available to me. I don't want low quality, flimsy crap that I have to duck with all the time. Not looking to break the bank but willing to pay for value. Thanks Keith
Just find a good 7075 alloy lower, and go from there. Start at least with an Aero lower and start buying parts. Palmetto State and Anderson make good lowers too. There's some really good ones even one made here in Wisconsin. Being a machinist you'll love taking an 80% lower to 100% with a router or better in your case. I made my ar15 lower from a 0% finished , a raw block of 7075-T6. Buy a good barrel, bcg, scope/ optics , and furniture ( grips, stock and handguard) and trigger. Mags and ammo and get some trigger time.
I'll say that if you shoot a red squirrel with a 175 grain 7mm rem mag at 10 yards, that there was only a tail left. It was rather disgusting. I've shot a few porcupines with deer calibers and it's devastating. But that red squirrel was messy.
So I carted my Wisconsin azz into a Illinois gun shop and I was treated like royalty!! Was able to go into the no no zone.
I have been eyeballing those for a while but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I am going to get a personal defense shotgun first. Then this sale popped up… My son pretty much has me talked into a 257 Roberts & a 204. I really liked the 257 Roberts that my late neighbor had.
I have always been a fan of 16 gauges & now my son is. I grew up using JC Higgins bolt action 20gauge & then got a JC bolt 16, shot alot of birds & deer with it. I used to fleece my buddies shooting trap with it also.
I like me some CZ rifles too. My 204' were / are not CZ but my 223 and 17 hornet are as well as my 22lr. First 204 was a savage with a bunch of custom mods and my current is built by Shilen out of Ennis Texas. Their barrel, action and trigger.
