That’s how it was when I was a kid… except I didn’t see it as a lot- and now I miss the 2 in 1 day deal even more, given now we travel 2 days in a row to see in law #1 and in law #2 the following day.

Yep that’s how it was in my hometown.
Thing is, my MIL is only about 10 minutes from FIL… to me it’s a no brainer- once down the interstate around lunch and back up it after the 2nd meal. I got shtuff to do on Friday!!!

A few years ago, the opening of WI deer gun season was on my wife's birthday. We were in a skyscraper hotel in downtown Chicago. That was her wish and I was being a good husband.

I swear though. I'd never do that again. I'd rather fake an injury/ sickness and not hunt than do that again.

One time yooperdave mentioned governor in sentence about a tool he bought. I googled my brains out trying to find what a governor was on that tool and how it worked on the tool. I finally asked, turns out he was talking about paying tax:rofl: :rofl:

As my extended relatives divorced, remarried etc. Thanksgiving was moved to Wednesday, and Thursday with the "other" family, so same situation since like the 80's. Hang in there Eric :) 2000's we had it at our house with Dad, wife, and her mother. Since we moved here it's just us 3.

It wouldn't have mattered whether jabs were taken.

I only had one job for today. Cook a 25 pound turkey. So I go in the basement to get the turkey cooking pan and there's an inch of toilet water on the floor and a hole in a cast iron drain pipe. So, after the turkey's in the oven I dig the cesspool cover off and find the cesspool is pretty much dry as a bone, but it is filled about three feet high with a fairly solid stiff brownie cake. Cesspool is a hundred years old / not a beehive so I can't see theinlet pipe to see if I can get a snake up it. I gotta find a selfie stick to lower my phone down. Cast iron pipes are known to rust and collapse and I'm hoping that is not the case. No way to snake it from inside except maybe the hole. Gotta clean the floor first. Not tonight.

Spent the day with my wife, my youngest, her fiancé and his sister. We went to my dad’s house for thanksgiving dinner.

Dad has been going to the local deli and buying their “family feast” and we go there for thanksgiving. Just a matter of warming food up really. This is his “tradition” now since mom has gone into memory care after her stroke. Three years on now.

If you have a toilet in the basement, you can remove it and get a snake down the line that way. Been there done that got the T shirt.......and it's just another of the many T-shirts I have!!!!

Good luck, no pics necessary. :D

Just one bathroom, small house. There's a cast iron clean out but it will never unthread. It would have to be busted off and a rubber plug put in its place. Easiest option is the roof vent, but it's not a straight easy shot, there's a couple of tight bends around the fat stone foundation wall. Problem with cast iron pipes is they have a habit of rusting out on horizontal sections along the top of the pipe, inside the house and out. Inside is easy to see ... This one is rusted out on the top in one spot. How it starts. I have a nagging feeling I be digging a trench for a PVC pipe.

Well that isn't the way anyone want their Thanksgiving to start (or any day for that matter).

Please, please, please do not post pics :D
