My late father had a close friend there and they used to visit him, I was born and he raised me in an amazing place, but he said St George was even better.

I'd like to say best place is previous home of over 20 years, 10 minutes from the city but in the mountains overlooking the city beyond a reservoir. Except-the city grew and went crazy and the neighbors changed for the worst after homes were sold & bought over the years. I'll always miss the nice weather there and long summers, but 45 minutes to get what used to be a 20 minute drive isn't cool. That and the bicyclists between the road I took to town and the college kids on bikes in old town, spooky stuff!!

It's kinda funny you started this thread when you did. Just this past weekend i got fired from a job and I'm contemplating/thinking I'm gonna be moving by next year this time. I'm thinking Tennessee, Knoxville area. Probably northwest of the city. Got a buddy that moved down there about 2 years ago.

Sorry to hear about the job. Sometimes these things wake us up to even bigger possibilities. That’s how I ended up in Florida years ago. I quit one job expecting to start somewhere new the following week, then it occurred to me over the weekend that I could go literally ANYWHERE, so I made it happen. I hear Knoxville is nice. I also have a buddy that moved about 30 miles outside of it 2 years ago. Loves it.

Thanks for your condolences but it had been feeling like a dead end job for awhile now. The firing was kinda a blind side but I'm trying to make the best of it. I haven't been happy living in this area for quite some time now but figured i might get over it eventually but it's not looking good. I've lived in this county for my whole life except for 2 years i went to college. I'm thinking to come to peace living around here someday i need to live other places and see much more in this country before i make a decision where my "retirement" home is gonna be.

To all those that have replied they are happy right where they are and have no thoughts of moving, is where you're at now within the same county or within 50 miles of where you grew up?

going thru same thing. been frustrated with that job for a while and than bam blind side but I see it as an opportunity to move forward. If it wasn't winter time I'd just load up my camper and go do something seasonal in the area I'd want to check out. I could go south and do it but not my ticket. I found a new job and if it doesn't pan out I still might do that this spring.

It's absolutely beautiful up there, pulls on my heart strings all the time. I can close my eyes and picture the breathtaking serenity of the white mountains.

Best trip I ever took, my kids still talk about it to this day! What an adventure!

A place where I can ski in the morning and park my butt in the sand on a warm beach in the afternoon.

Utah! You can be in the desert in the am and in in avalanche territory in a few hours. The local people are weird tho!

British Columbia is bad azz as well. The sea to sky highway is very interesting drive.

100%. I'd rather a different time than a different place. Every modern place is ruined by the political bullchit

Once you see the con job for what it is, you can let go of the entire "my team is less bad than your team" argument, and set yourself free. Or at least sleep well at night burying your head in the sand like I do :) But I get it.

If we're taking the conversation to what time periods we'd rather live in, I pick somewhere around the time the articles of confederation were being drafted, because if I'm going back to pre-Penicillin days, I might as well live really dangerously. ;)

I live less than 50 miles from where I grew up BUT have been to all the states and over a dozen countries.
I would have a hard time moving; several reasons
    1) family in area
    2) I’m in a great spot with a long drive and the back 1200 acres is protected and I can use it..
Privacy away from idiots is good for my sanity
    3) I’m close to shopping and airport

I love the blue ridge parkway where there are seasons but it doesn’t snow 6 months out of year

I live 6 miles from where I grew up. My time period I’d like to go to would be the 1950’s I think

Yup, same zip code my whole life...same phone number for the last 35, same address for the last 25...which is within 1/4 mile of where I grew up...all my siblings are within 3-4 mile radius too.
I think I'm generally a pretty content person, so that may be part of why never wandered off...have traveled a good bit though, so I have a pretty good idea what's out there...only been out of the country twice, but the one trip made me realize that even the worst off of people in the USA are still pretty lucky!

I live in the house I grew up in. It was more fun when someone else payed the mortgage.
