You didn’t. It’s a conversation, my sister. Free to flow into tributaries and eddies like a nice lazy river.
Ps if anyone’s wondering about the title of this thread, I’ll just put this here for posterity. I got waylaid by a medical issue right after I found this forum, and well before we even had a functioning wood burner in the house. We were shopping around and I was looking for good user-based info on what would be the best fit for the house. Anyways, I lurked around and started posting in lots of threads that had nothing whatsoever to do with hoarding - music, birdwatching, what-have-you. Some may have wondered at the time, “Is this dude gonna get to some wood-throwing or what?” So - there ya go. Once I was all knitted up and could get my narrow a$$ out in the yard, I was legit. I remain in all y’all’s debt for the knowledge and inspiration shared here. Thank you. Plus, this is freakin’ fun AND productive. Did I already say, “ask my wife how she felt about my Xbox”?
Agri fab has nice dump carts that don't fetch the green paint price on the used market. I've got a 10 cubic foot one and my buddy has a 15 cubic foot one. They were 50 and 70 dollars used on CL/ fbm. They work great behind the garden tractor and the ATV
Agrifab apparently makes two versions. One with the wide tires and ones with the skinny tires. My friends and my carts have the wide tires, it helps to keep from digging ruts.
So we have these new neighbors… They bought a fixer upper house (it’s gutted now; they took it down to the studs) and the 2.5 wooded acre lot adjacent to them. Which was smart. Anyways, they have given me and Mr. Cottonwood carte blanche to cut any dead standing lumber and/or stuff that’s already on the ground. I got started without Mr. Cottonwood today - he has a life, too, you know. And I started with this: It’s like the “gateway tree” to the rest of the property. Once it’s cleared, negotiating the rest will be easier. So here’s the thing. It was mostly off the ground and seemed quite dry (my MM arrives later today so I can verify). But… what IS it? I’m leaning toward white oak but I’m new to this game. More pics below:
Not bad for an hour and a half’s work - and I get to scrounge on this property for a year at least to my heart’s content. Paging Mr. Cottonwood (I know you’re lurking here…). Please join me next time and bring your trailer so you can score some of this haul!
