Had a local guy take the tops off some ash trees last spring that were close to the house, he ask for 800 plus the taxes which pit it at about 860 so i gave him 900. Pretty sure he will be happy to come back if I need him again.

I'm having Sh*t for luck this week. I've been selling pallet bins of gnarly splits, short splits, stump cuts, etc. for $50 per bin. They've sold well and since the minimum volume sold here is generally 1/2 -1 cord, people like them. I had a guy reach out from Casper asking if I'd deliver him two bins worth. I charge $40 delivery to Casper and normally knock out some errands in the big town. He tried to haggle on Marketplace for $100 delivered but I firmly said it's $140 (hour each way). The post mentions the size of each bin and he asked if two bins would equate to 2/3 of a cord. I told him it's hard to estimate the exact cordage because I just toss them into bins but it's close to 1/2 cord and would fill a truck bed. I confirm $140 in Cash before I leave.

I fill up my truck with two bins and throw in 10-15 extra splits. Text him that I'm on my way.

As soon as I arrive, he acts confused as to why I'm there and immediately starts saying this isn't enough wood for the price. Goes to his garage, pulls out a tape measure and says it's closer to 1/3 of a cord and only has $100 cash. I turned around and left, not worth my time.

I always count. Never been shorted until this year. $320 total. Counted it in front of the customer and told them it was $40 short. They went back in for the $40. I recounted alone and was actually missing $60, miscounted the first time. They came out with $40 and I just left it at that. My fault.

No wonder why they didn't argue with it!

    Who knows, right?

I have yet to be charged "taxes" for any load of wood. Even when I order a truckload (10-13 full cord) there is no breakdown for taxes....and those guys are in the business.

Knock on wood, but have never had a payment issue or customer complaint in over 600 deliveries in three years. I frequently have customers say “that is all for me?” I deliver approximately 50 CUFT face cords. Almost all of my communication is via text, so no issue with misunderstandings. I follow up phone calls with a text confirming what we discussed. I sell my firewood for more than anyone else in the Nashville area, so bargain hunters and weirdo’s tend to leave me alone.

A little off topic, but don’t understand selling firewood so cheap no matter where you reside. Trucks, trailers, splitters, chainsaws and fuel costs about the same all over this great land. I’d sell my blood plasma or collect aluminum cans before giving my hard labor and expenses away on the cheap. Ducking for cover!
