    Have off for Veteran's Day.

My wife is assembling a Nativity play for her church that will take place at the middle school. I told her I would make them a cardboard city of Bethlehem with lights, rolling hills, etc. for in front of the stage. The guy that was going to make the stable wanted $500 to build it...I told her this morning I will do it with the pallets I have laying around and it will look just as good or better. So basically I'm doing all of the props for this play...none of the "men" who are church members feel the need to help out...

So I'm in town running errands and I think, I'll get what I need for the rolling hills. So I stop by Hobby Lobby. I find the fabric rolls in the back and they have the fake grass. It's like a 4 foot wide roll that looks like you would just roll it out and cut it.

So I get in line behind some women getting fabric and they're all talking about fabricing or whatever you would call the hobby. They have rectangular fabric rolls that the HL employee is measuring and cutting on a counter. I have nothing in my hands.

So after 15 or minutes one of the women in front of me asks me if I have a question. I'm like "excuse me?" She asks if I have a question to ask the girl. I said "no I'm buying something". So she asks if I already know what I want. I say "yeah I'm getting some of that grass stuff". I have no idea what it's actually called.

So the girl behind the counter says "Sir you can just go grab it if you want". I say "oh, I didn't see the scissors or a measuring tape?". They all look at me like WTF? I said I don't understand what you all mean. The girl says to just bring the entire roll. I'm like ohhhhh ok.

So I grab the roll and I didn't realize there's a curtain rod in it that slides out. I pick up the roll, the rod slides out almost completely and as I turn I knock everything off a shelf. I go to look at what happened and the rod slides out the rest of the way and rolls away on the floor. I have no idea where to put the roll of grass while I pick up the stuff off the floor so the women let me cut in front of them and I set it on the counter and start to pick everything up. They all were really nice and helped me and joked about men shopping for fabric and I was in complete agreement with them.

These had better be the best looking rolling hills that were ever in a Nativity set.

Busy day today. Got some things taken care of early around the house. Went to cheer our daughter’s soccer team in a parade at the school and Main Street to see them off to the New York State final four Girls Soccer Championships. Good time. Then went out and bought a new chainsaw. I didn’t want to spend the dough, but needed a new saw.
Getting ready to buy a new Stihl.
Used it to cut up some Pine and Ash this afternoon. Will get to use it some more tomorrow morning too!
    I tired!

Took some bad advice a while back. JD dealer said I didn’t have to replace the shims between my gear cases and final drives. They didn’t have any anyway. They’ve been leaking and finally got around to tearing it down. Ordered the shims from another dealer. Replaced them and so far it stopped the leak. Took the tractor down the drive and no leaks. Shall see in the morning

clapped out shim and new one.

Replaced the glow plugs on Thursday, started the tractor up this morning. Started almost immediately at 34 outside.

That attitude by the dealer gives you a good idea of what their service work would be like. Took me a lot of years to learn if you want it done right, do it yourself and don't cut corners on the parts or fluid and filters.
