My 11yo had a friend over for dinner and a movie. Hungry Jack Casserole (an old recipe from my childhood in the 70’s) followed by warm brownies and ice cream.

Borrowed “Alone in the Wilderness” from the library—my daughter’s second time watching it and her friend’s first. I’m amazed how much this slow, relaxing, poetic documentary captures their attention. Just as much as any Pixar movie or modern wildlife doc filled with sensational footage.

Grand fir and cherry burning in the Fisher. Stove doors open for ambience. Wind howling outside.

Cozy and satisfying Friday night overall.

I don't think I ever watched Part II of Alone in the Wilderness.

We borrowed that too, and watched a bit of it tonight. It seemed like more of the same, maybe not quite as good but still worth watching. We’ll probably finish it tomorrow.

Watched the second AITW. Daughter agreed: a worthy companion to the original.

Spalted maple in the stove. Stronger and sturdier than the grand fir from last night.

Love that movie. Used to own it. I've seen the second a couple times, the first is better but they're both good.

I've not seen either of those movies. Is it worth watching?

Grand fir, my favorite Christmas tree type. They hold their needles well, and she'll awesome, better than any other Christmas tree.

Honestly Parts 1 and 2 are both really good. It’s mellow, almost entrancing. You can buy them on eBay, or hopefully borrow them from your library. You can watch pieces on YouTube, but it’s MUCH better to sit and relax and watch the whole thing on DVD. I watch a lot on my phone, but this is an event IMO.
