Grandson sure enjoyed collecting them , we got half a bucket of pecans too - which excited me more than him I think. Love eating pecans !
Cant say ive seen a mockernut hickory in person even though they are around here. Shagbark, pignut and bitternut the most common.
Speaking of hickory. Have been cutting on this 32" at the trunk shag bark when I pass by on my Nashville deliveries. Three truck loads so far and maybe 8-10 more. It is a beast.
buZZsaw BRAD, sorry for my ignorance, but what is DBH? Going back to cut on this big dude tomorrow after two deliveries.
Hey there. DBH is Diameter at Breast Height or about 4.5 feet from the ground. It's the typical method for measuring trunk size.
No worries. I didnt know the term when i joined here. DBH is Diameter at Breast Height basically 4.5' from ground level. A 13" DBH tree will yield a face cord, 16" a half cord, 22" a full cord. I use it to guage how much ill get in the scarce instance i harvest a full tree. Here's the link to a good chart. Estimating Firewood from Standing Trees - UNH Extension
